Transmission fail light

Asked by Nov 09, 2008 at 02:59 PM about the 1999 Renault Laguna

Question type: Maintenance & repair

Hi, i am a technician here in Barbados where there is no Renault dealer. I have a customers '99 Laguna with an intermittent tranny fault. I picked up a fault on a diagnosis which said faulty speed sensor. However on ordering the speed sensor, I received an incorrect part. Can anyone enlighten me as to if the lagunas between '99 and '00 carried different trans. The Haynes manual is showing two units. The earlier one identifies the speed sensor location. The second unit does not identify the sensor. I located a sensor beside the diff close to the top. Can anyone tell me if this is the correct one?
Also this vehicle carries two bearings per rear wheel. On ordering, I received one large one. I seem to be getting the runaround from two different dealers in the UK. Any help would be appreciated.

The Laguna uses one bearing in each rear hub which is made up of two ball races in a sealed unit. These tend to fail after about 50000miles and fall apart gining the impression of two bearings, but it's really just one broken one. Good luck getting the old one out. You really need a press to do it.
