Problem with my airbag light

Asked by RichieShapes Aug 18, 2014 at 11:12 AM about the 2004 Vauxhall Astra

Question type: Maintenance & repair

I have a problem with my airbag light. It's constantly on but when I press the heated rear
window switch the airbag light goes off. I brought it to an auto-electricians and they can't
understand it because they said there is no link between the two. You should also no that
my heaters are also faulty because they only work on on the 4th setting

Hi, it's almost like #1 except I don't have the small screen in the most central part of the dash

Ok Thanks, had to know which one to do the research for your question. But unfortunately, just like the auto-electrician I can find no evidence of the two being tied together in any way. And I assure you it's not from lack of trying. Vauxhall forums, service manuals, Google searches using a dozen keywords and nothing. I learned that the Zafiria is a very similar car and searched on the single forum, that is not very well used or web-site designed for that matter. Long-winded way of saying Sorry I am no help.

Ya to be honest I'm not really expecting to get an answer because it's such a strange problem. Thanks for trying anyway I really appreciate it.

i just got same problem. as there been any change in the car after this as happen ???

seems you have a possable short try taking the both switches out and test them and make sure the right wires go back to right switches, and check them wires with a volt meter if you have 1, see how you go with that

did you check the heater element for the heater because if it only works on 4 soon will pack in and will need 2nd hand heater and can blow the fuse aswell so dont forget if stops all together. 1x always make sure by windscreen and wipers are clean from leafs ect as can cause drainage problems and lets water in to your heater and then leaks inside your cars floor you will need 2nd hand 1 will do. matter of time b4 heater packs in soon, if dose you will still need heater and check the fuse when you fit your next heater when installed. but my guess is your heater element has failed so this is the problem hope this helps

If heater is only working on setting 4.. it is one of two problems.. Most likely.. the resistor pack has gone. Meaning that only when there is no resistance on the circuit(ie setting 4) , it will work. Simple fix. Buy the resistor pack for a few quid in ebay. Remove glove box and the pack it right above pollen filter. (Literally did this to mine this morning). If that fails then most likely your motor has seized by getting wet and only setting 4 has the power required to push the rusty fan round. Buy the motor on ebay and remove same glove box to fit it.
