I have a low whirring sound coming from the diff which is very conspicuous when coming to a halt.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I removed both rear wheels and turned the side shafts by hand. I cud feel a
low rumble, the shaft does not turn smoothly, sort off a clicking sound as it
rotates. The side shaft bearings seem ok, i removed the shafts and checked.

Maybe your differential bearings are worn.

We have exactly the same sound. We have taken off apart the diff and we don't know what's wrong with it. We have taken off and replaced a rear axle and now the clicking is still there. When we drive the back wheels don't turn as they should round a corner so the diff lock is on and we can't get it to spin right. Before we replaced it we would go up to 30mph and have a horrid whirringsound and vibrations throughout and it's really loud. Did you manage to find out what it was and can anyone please help
