I have a 66 galaxy and I want to know what size engine is in it what do I do? My vintage and title doesn't help at the part store
390 or 500 should say something on the sticker, you know you could run a carfax would probably tell you~
I just happen to love the 66 Galaxy and have mass info for you if needed, first thing would be in your case is to learn to read the VIN. and if you don't know is locate it. The should be on your title, the serial number and engine number location is on the left front door pillar or drivers side. The last number in the serial number is the engine code. I just got done restoring a 67 so most the info is the same. In 66-67. In 66 the engines available were the 6-240, V8-289, V8-352, V8-390, V8-428, V8-427,.... So those were the engine options. So, you ask what to do is look at these following scanned pictures as all I had was in hard copy, so I scanned them for you into jpeg and I am going to start adding each page in order, so get ready as there is 11 pages and I didn't get into the color codes or interiors available. If you need more info, I more than likely have everything as like I said, last year I finished a complete restoration of a 66 500 with the rare 427 and if that is the engine you have, do not sell it until you talk to me as I would be in the market for that car, and I am extremely serious. Do you have any history about the car?? I am going to start with how to read the Vin, on page one, it took me a lot to get this to you and all I ask in return is if you are selling please talk to me, click on the pictures to enlarge, copy as save image to a file. It took me hours to find my paperwork on this car as I am one terrible file keeper, but seem to always find what I am looking for....LOL Heres page one..... On page one the X is the engine code and is the 8-390 engine. It's really straight forward.
If that fifth letter is any of the following I would really appreciate a contact and lets talk about this car!!! The last or 5th letters of N, P, Q, or R is what I am very interested in. It's unlikely but you never know, you more than likely have a 289.

hi Jay, took a look and well not really that impressed. It was a really just the generic of the lot car, but straight as hell and the interior was one of the unusual ones, that year was often like a vinyl plastic type covering on those bench seats. But still nice car, wish his pictures were better as really couldn't tell much from the pics. It took me a long time last night to scan my paper docs into the computer in order to get this info to the person, but have been wanting to get some of that type stuff done anyhow and this made the perfect reason to get started, I just love the 66. I just wish I'd have gotten a response by now, but that's always like holding your breath. But the asker should save those images of those paper pages I had in my file. They are not easy to come by. Whom ever could have gotten back to me and just give me the VIN and I could have gave the person every bit of the specs for the car. but well we all know how that goes. Gawyy, what is it about the 66 Galaxie? certainly there are more intersting creatures of the ilk. Power, and comfortable ride....but never sporty or handling. Crikey, my 59 pontiac catalina did not even have a rollbar- No seatbelts, two chrome plated ashtrays what opened up the word PONTIAC one on the P and the other on the C. like driving a hot rod rooster, could screetch the tires at 35mph with the Jet-a-way transmission. Really a fine thing, but laden with a few of today's riddles, such as roller bearings and cartridge type oil filter. Was there something about the galaxie 500, or were you looking for nostalgia? so sorry for being a juggler, in the words of 96 year old Opal Nicholson, from Washington, Iowa "you gotta keep movin', you gotta keep movin'" so I just cannot wait for anything anymore. He loves the old stuff, and knows every nook and cranny of the East Bay, a very generous and caring person. I had All my documents on a Westen Digital 100GB drive, and lovely Windows Vista with it's inept administration of devices, did not enable me to stop a virus to gobblin the entire drive....phooey. That I personally feel was one of my better jobs and three years in the making, but maybe I'm a little attached to it after all the time I spent, but come on, you have to admit, short of the paint which was the owners choice, I'd painted it differently, With the lowering and the fact it's the two door, that's a beautiful job and car and I am fairly proud of it. Oh yes, wonderful WD, wild destruction. I to had my fill of Western Digital, and I wouldn't buy another of their product if it were free.. I bought a stand alone drive to use as backup and ended up with such a mess that I can't even explain all of it even with my Knack for length wordy dissertation as you yourself Sir coined it and diagnosed my condition and nailed me precisely. But there is no words to describe that piece of shit company. Yes also about those hard copies, ie: paper, as I would not have anything left had it not been for the fact that I saved all my drafting and thousands of documents in the old fashion style, paper. Hell I still have a typewriter so when we take a major and direct solar hit, I can still put out my ten page dissertations....LOL

Ya the flash is handy, but they can fail also, ScanDisk is my brand, I have never had a failure and their newest drive is just awesome. Depending on your OS and if your USB input is still at 2.0 or the latest which is the 3.0 yet, which is the newest and greatest which is really fast when it comes to file transfers, the newest ScanDisk flash is at a storage size of 128GB, shit that's pretty darn good capacity. My smallest drive is 1GB and the largest I have at the moment is 16GB. I wouldn't waste money on anything under 1GB. But back when these were first coming out a 1GB thumb drive cost about close to $100, now you can buy them all day long for about $15. That's how fast technology changes which drives the prices down. Now the new ScanDisk drive at 128GB is expensive like around $300 but in two years they will probably cost $50. All their drives have encryption which is something you want plus ScanDisk I think gives you two GB of free cloud storage. I use those a lot also, to upload large PDF files and then email the link to someone and they can download it from my cloud storage. Some email providers limit the size of the attachments you might want to send, so getting cloud storage is good. Especially for documents that you absolutely don't want to lose. I have duplicate cloud storage as even they could fail. The computer system I have built myself is basically a server with six drives for SATA and two SSD drives. All of them hot swappable, meaning I can remove them while my system is running and put in another HD without shutting down and that's now how I do my backups. The best thing I think about the Company ScanDisk is virtually every SanDisk USB drive and all drives in the new suite include secure file encryption and password protection.SanDisk SecureAccess software provides 128-bit AES file encryption and password protection6 for private files while leaving the rest of the drive available for sharing, which with a few changes in view, you wouldn't even know that other files are even on the drive as they are hidden from view, so I could hand you one of my thumb drives with some files to copy off of it and have my most sensitive info on the same drive and unless you really knew what you were doing you wouldn't even know they were there. Also with ScanDisk they give you added protection and convenience, two GBof secure online storage7 is offered for file backup and access from any web browser. So that a good deal. Two of my computers HD's are TB, terabytes and that's mass storage, like you could put the entire set of the encyclopedia Britannica on one of those hard drives, twice and still have a bit of room. I use racing simulators, flight sims and they require a lot of storage capacity and lots of memory and speed. I am fairly techy, and like to build my own computers. It's a hobby, like restoring cars, and what ever else.
I wonder what happened to the person who asked this question, it gets to me when I get all happy to give someone my info and then spend like three hours, hunting my stuff down, scanning it and posting it for them and then, "nothing" that's irritating to me and I then sit here and wonder just why the hell I even bother. Shit you can rarely get a thanks out of these people, it does happen, but as you know it's fairly rare. It seems to me at times as if it's just expected that we get paid by CarGurus or something.
