tried rocking the car to free off the starter tried turning the key and nothing happened this has happened twice before and then the car starts i dont think its the imobiliser as bump starting it works so what would cause the solinoid to stop engageing?

It is probably a loose wire on the solenoid. There should be a spade connector on the end of a thin wire attached to the solenoid. It is quite common for this to make poor contact - remove it and then put it back on. If it feels loose use some pliers to gently close the connector up a bit.

inspected the wire earlier today and it was damaged so replaced it and it now works fine but thanks we were both on the same wave length
