Dim warning lights

Asked by Apr 30, 2017 at 07:16 PM about the 2010 Renault Twingo 1.2 Dynamique (a/c)

Question type: General

This issue only affects my car when it's not as bright outside, but is not
connected to the headlights (still happens when the headlights are off).

After driving for 10 or so minutes, my oil and coolant lights come on
incredibly dimmly, along with a dim service light and a dim zig zag in a box
light. The zig zag and warning light ones have been on for over a year and
the oil one only recently, but it stopped doing it after my MOT a couple of
weeks ago but has now returned.

Everything on google appears to be coming up with "turn up the lighting
dash of your car" it is not that problem. I have attached an image which
shows the lights compared to a proper warning light, which is my handbrake
light, and you can see the comparison. It's very difficult to see them but they
don't change in intensity at all. These are the only lights that do it at this
dimmness, the seat belt and steering wheel light are both as bright as the
handbrake.

I had a new battery around a year ago and this car has just clocked 98K.

It has passed every MOT` with no advisories and only needed a new throttle
but that was about 1.5 years ago.

I really hope this isn't going to be an expensive fix if there is something
wrong. The oil and coolant level are fine, nothing wrong with their colour or
consistency either.

Hi iamabbie, sorry to hear your Twingo has been giving you problems! Firstly, I don't think this is a huge cause for concern... as in I don't think the car will break down because of this fault. I've had a good look around various Renault forums and it would appear to be a pretty common fault. Many owners have just decided to live with it but there is a possibility that when one of the warning lights is actually needed it won't work properly, so if there was a problem with the coolant the light may not come on properly to alert you. It looks as if there is a fault within the dash pod itself. I found a link to this company that repairs them... No prices quoted on their website but it might be worth contacting them to see how much it will cost to fix. http://www.bba-reman.com/gb/content.aspx? content=renault-twingo-2007-new-instrument- cluster-a2c53124435-8200387578 Hope this helps... And good luck! Let us know how you get on, Bob
