Engine noise

Question type: Maintenance & repair

I have popping/whistling sounds when engine
running from the top left hand side of engine around
the injectors also in the same are black oily carbon
deposits, any ideas

It could be several things – an injector, exhaust manifold gasket failing or some Merc 6 cylinder engines do have a problem with noise from cylinder number one. If you're worried I'd take it to a Mercedes specialist for full diagnosis.
