engine warning light on, but disappears with ignition

Asked by Jun 05, 2017 at 03:55 PM about the 2015 MINI Mini 1.5 Cooper (Pepper) 5d

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

when i turn my car on (but not the engine) the engine warning light appears,
along with handbrake on symbol etc...However when i turn the engine on, it
disappears.
Is it telling me theres a problem, or does the fact it disappears mean it's just
checking everything.

Nothing to worry about here Sammywb it's operating correctly. With the ignition on but the engine not started the vast majority of the warning lights will illuminate which lets you know that the warning lights are working. Then when the car is started they should go out. It's only if the engine warning light comes on when the engine is running that you should be concerned.
