Verso cold start

Asked by Oct 30, 2017 at 06:01 PM about the 2008 Toyota Verso 1.8 SR VVT-i

Question type: Maintenance & repair

I have a manual petrol Verso.
In cold weather (like less than 10C) the when I press the start button - it tries a for quite a few seconds till it starts - sounding like it wont make it.
Once running, it is fine.
No bad noises during start - just really unsmooth and long.
Is this battery, oil, spark or fuel issue?
Thanks
terry

Hi Terry, hard to tell what's wrong but when it's struggling does the engine turn over ok, or doe it sound like it's turning over too slowly? If it sounds like its turning over slowly it may be your battery at fault. It could be a sensor at fault, possibly the air flow sensor requires cleaning as this is quite a common fault on the VVT-i engine. Good luck with tracing the fault and let us know how you get on.
