The 2011 Toyota Aygo comes from the first generation of Toyota’s teeny tiny city car. It was originally developed alongside Citroen and Peugeot as part of a joint project that also resulted in the C1 and 107 from those manufacturers, and aside from their badging and individual front- and rear-end styling treatments, all three cars are mechanically identical. The Aygo’s small size makes it very simple to park and it’s an easy car to drive generally, with light controls and good visibility. It’s likely to prove very reliable, too, and examples on the used car market will be very affordable to buy and run.

Strengths:

Cheap to buy and run
Should be very reliable if looked after
Easy to drive

Weaknesses:

Not much luxury kit
Small boot and cramped rear seats
Plasticky interior

Is the 2011 Toyota Aygo better than the 2011 Kia Picanto?

While the Toyota Aygo had already been around for quite a few years when 2011 rolled around, that was the same year that Kia released its all-new second-generation Picanto. To be fair, there felt like a gulf between the two in terms of sophistication. While the Toyota felt a bit old-hat and basic, the Kia felt civilised and high in quality. Still, these days you’ll pick up an Aygo for marginally less than the Picanto on the used market.
