2014 Honda Civic
1.8 I-vtec Se Plus 5dr Auto
39,000 mi
£9,250
Overview
The sharp, angular styling of the 2013 Honda Civic isn’t quite as futuristic as that of its immediate predecessor (built up to 2011), but it’s still a distinctive-looking car – and Honda worked hard to improve the interior quality for this generation of Civic. Being a Honda, it’s also likely to be among the most reliable family hatchbacks around. And although some of the engines aren’t among the best in class, the 1.6-litre diesel model is particularly impressive. A Ford Focus is definitely more fun to drive, however.
Strengths:
Practical and roomy cabin
Very reliable, so long as you stay on top of maintenance
Excellent 1.6-litre diesel engine
Weaknesses:
Dull to drive compared with a Ford Focus
Split-level rear window impedes visibility
Entry-level SE model is rather basic
Is the 2013 Honda Civic better than the 2013 Ford Focus?
The 2013 Ford Focus is much more lively to drive than the 2013 Honda Civic, has a better range of engine options overall, and is equally practical. It’s the Honda that’s likely to provide the more reliable family motoring, however.
