Small, affordable hatchbacks – often known as superminis – are a hugely popular type of car, providing value-for-money motoring and, in the best models a dash of fun, style and luxury, too. The 2015 Peugeot 208 definitely fits into that bracket. It’s nifty looking, features a smartly-styled cabin and offers generous amounts of standard equipment (provided you avoid the entry-level trims). While the high-performance GTi is a hoot to drive, more humble 208 models, although still engaging, are not as much fun as a Ford Fiesta. You’ll find there’s more space for both people and luggage in a Skoda Fabia, too.

The 2015 Peugeot 208 isn’t quite a class-leader, but it feels grown-up and just a little premium, and its handling is entertaining enough whilst also being reassuringly stable. The Ford Fiesta, meanwhile, goes about its motoring duties with a touch more verve, though it doesn’t feel quite as swish as the Peugeot.
