A Kia is no longer the bargain-basement proposition it was a couple of decades ago. In fact, the 2016 Kia Sportage is every bit a match for models from brands like Skoda or Volkswagen when it comes to delivering a near-premium-quality feel. And yet, the Kia still represents great value for money, is well equipped and is pleasant to drive, if not quite as much fun as a Ford Kuga or Seat Ateca. It’s also not quite as comfortable as a Peugeot 3008. However, as a reliable well-equipped all-rounder, the Sportage offers up an impressive package.

Even though the 2016 Kia Sportage will be out of its generous warranty period by now, reliability studies suggest it should still prove more dependable as family transport than a similarly aged Nissan Qashqai. There’s more space inside the Kia, too, and it feels more solidly put together.
