The 2016 Land Rover Discovery 4 was the last model year for this generation of Discovery, which was originally introduced in 2009, although even that model was essentially a heavy update of the third-generation car. Yet its solid, chunky styling, practical nature (this is a genuinely roomy seven-seat car) and unbeatable off-road ability are a beguiling combination. Yes it’s heavy on fuel consumption and in terms of tax bills, and finding a reliable one is not as easy as you’d hope, but if you can find a good one, the Discovery 4 is one of the most capable family cars you’ll ever find.
