The 2023 Kia Sportage really makes a virtue out of choice. Kia will sell you one with diesel, petrol, mild hybrid, full hybrid or plug-in hybrid power. And you can choose between two- or four-wheel drive on some models, too. And while the pre-2022 model’s styling was a little amorphous and anonymous, the same can’t be said of the 2023 Kia Sportage – its dramatic combination of curves and creases, and its smart LED headlights, really help it stand out from the crowd. Meanwhile, its tech-focussed interior will impress even the most ardent of badge snobs.

The 2023 Nissan Qashqai is more stylish than its forebears, and it represents good value for money, but despite its clever ‘E-Power’ hybrid drivetrain and simpler mild hybrid engine options, it can’t match the Sportage for breadth of choice or flexibility. The 2023 Kia Sportage feels like a more premium product, too.
