Used Coupe Values Outperform Other Body Styles as Just 12 Models are Available New in the UK Today
Used coupes have become the UK’s top-appreciating body style, increasing 11% year-on-year, while the availability of new models across the UK’s top 30 manufacturers1 has fallen by 67% over the past decade. According to the latest data from CarGurus – a leading automotive marketplace in the UK for shopping and buying used vehicles – prices for the coupe body style have increased while the overall average price of a used vehicle has remained essentially flat over the same period, up nearly 1%.
At a model level, iconic nameplates are driving much of this momentum as certain used models are increasingly becoming modern collectibles. The Jaguar F-Type (+16% in average price compared to a year ago), Porsche 911 (+14%), and Audi TT (+4%) are seeing notable gains, reflecting continued demand for performance-led vehicles that are becoming harder to source. More recently, the BMW i4 has seen a 9% price increase over the past 90 days.
These price increases come at a time when new coupe models are becoming harder to find as manufacturers continue to focus on SUVs and electric vehicles. Just 12 coupe models are available in 2026 from the UK’s top 30 manufacturers1, compared with 33 in 2021 (-64%) and 36 in 2016 (-67%), underscoring how dramatically the segment has contracted over the past decade. As a result, consumers are increasingly turning to the used market for these models.
Of these 12 models, BMW now accounts for half of all new coupes available in the UK, most recently dropping the M8 from its lineup and replacing it with the mid-size all-electric i4. Porsche, meanwhile, has discontinued the 718 range, leaving the 911 as its sole coupe, while Mercedes (with its CLA Coupe, CLE Coupe, and AMG GT), and Ford (through its Mustang model) maintain their positions from a year ago. A notable exception is Honda, which launched the sixth-generation Prelude in 2025, its first new coupe offering in over half a decade.
According to the CarGurus Price Trends Index, the average price of a used coupe now stands at approximately £19,600, second only to pickup trucks. Despite broader used car market price fluctuations, coupe prices have increased more than other body styles, with SUVs (+1.8%) and hatchbacks (-0.8%) recording more modest changes over the same period.
Drivers looking to monitor these shifts can use CarGurus’ Used Car Price Trends Index, which tracks millions of used car listings across the UK. The tool provides insights into pricing trends by body style, make, and model, allowing buyers to identify value and sellers to price competitively. In a dynamic market, access to real-time data is becoming an essential advantage for those looking to buy or sell with confidence.
Chris Knapman, CarGurus UK Editorial Director, said: “What we’re seeing with the values of coupes right now is typical supply and demand dynamics at work. As new car choice in the more niche, enthusiast-led segments contracts, so used examples are becoming both more desirable and more valuable.
“That’s where the Price Trends Index comes into its own, giving buyers and sellers a clear, data-led view of how the market is moving, be it across body styles, or even specific makes and models of car.”
