Small but safe: advanced safety features in the Kia EV2

Technology to protect everyone on board

The Kia EV2 surrounds you with the kind of safety technology you’d expect from a larger, more expensive car. It’s compact on the outside but comes packed with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that support you while driving and can help to prevent a collision. And to make starting or finishing your drive equally stress-free, the EV2 is available with parking assistance features that help you manoeuvre in or out of a space.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in the Kia EV2

The Kia EV2 brings big-car safety tech to the small SUV sector, offering ADAS technology that gives you extra peace of mind and helps to protect everyone on board. These features use cameras, sensors and radar technology to constantly monitor the car and its surroundings. They can anticipate potential danger, warn you, and then react automatically if needed. All in a split second.

Front Collision Avoidance Assist 2.0

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2.0 is always looking out for you. It scans the road ahead, monitoring vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians in your path. If it detects danger it will warn you and then, if necessary, brake automatically to help prevent an impact.

It’s got your back, helping to avoid collisions not only with what’s directly in front of you, but also when turning at road junctions or changing lanes. It can even provide steering assistance in some situations, and it’s easy to choose how much assistance you want using the EV2’s infotainment touchscreen.

Smart Cruise Control 2.0

Smart Cruise Control 2.0 takes the strain out of driving on faster roads by maintaining a set speed and distance from the vehicle in front. Just set your requirements and your EV2 will do the rest, accelerating and braking as needed.

It's a feature that makes motorway driving less tiring and it can automatically reduce speed if there’s a tight curve ahead. You’re always in control because you can pause it, switch it off or adjust the level of assistance in an instant.

Highway Driving Assist 2.0

Highway Driving Assist 2.0 can lighten your load on longer journeys, helping out with some of the driving tasks to give you an easier, safer ride. It builds on the functionality of Smart Cruise Control, maintaining a safe speed and distance from the vehicle in front, but also keeping you centred in your lane using gentle steering inputs. In some situations it will even change lanes automatically if you indicate.

A Hands-On Detection feature ensures that your hands are always on the steering wheel, for maximum safety.

Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Following Assist

Stay on the right track with two systems that keep your car safely in its lane on faster roads. Lane Keeping Assist works in the background, scanning your car’s position on the road. If it senses you’re drifting off-course, it warns you and then gently steers you back in line if necessary.

Lane Following Assist provides more proactive support, making subtle steering adjustments as you drive to keep the car perfectly centred in its lane.

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist and Driver Attention Warning

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) reads road signs ahead of you and displays the current speed limit in the driver display. It warns you if you’re going too fast and will automatically adjust the set speed if you have Smart Cruise Control activated.

Driver Attention Warning (DAW) monitors your driving behaviour and if it senses that you’re tired or distracted it’ll prompt you to take a break. If you stop in traffic and don’t notice the vehicle in front pull away, it will let you know so that you don’t hold anyone up or risk being hit from behind.

Safety Exit Warning

Safety Exit Warning (SEW) is a simple yet clever feature that warns you or your passengers if you’re about to get out of the car into the path of an oncoming vehicle or cyclist. If you’re at a standstill and any of the side doors are opened, rear-facing radar sensors detect approaching traffic and you’re alerted in an instant.

Parking assistance technology in the Kia EV2

Compact dimensions, a raised driving position and great visibility make parking the Kia EV2 simple, but sometimes we all need a little help. That’s why it’s available with a range of parking assistance features that can give you a helping hand at either end of your journey.

Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist

This useful feature goes one step further than reverse parking sensors (which the EV2 is also available with), helping you to avoid a collision when backing into – or out of – a parking space.

When you select reverse, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-R) uses the rear-view camera and ultrasonic sensors to detect any obstacles behind you, whether that’s a moving or stationary vehicle, a pedestrian or even a shopping trolley. It warns you if you get too close and can apply the brakes if necessary to help prevent or reduce an impact.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist

Reversing out of a space in a busy car park or street can be a hassle, but Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) makes the experience less stressful. It uses rear-mounted radar sensors to detect vehicles approaching from either side, giving you audio and visual warnings if something’s in your path. If the system senses an imminent collision, it’ll automatically apply the brakes to help avoid one.

Remote Smart Parking Assist Entry

If you've ever wished that your car would park itself, especially in a particularly tight or tricky spot, the Kia EV2's Remote Smart Parking Assist is a wish come true. While standing outside the car you can move it forwards or backwards, simply by pressing a button on the smart key.

It's a lifesaver if you have to park in a narrow space where opening the doors is tricky, and the car can brake or steer itself to help avoid any obstacles. Like many of the EV2's features, it's the kind of tech you normally associate with larger, more expensive models.

Rear View Monitor and Surround View Monitor

Having a clear view of what’s around you makes parking much easier, and that's what these useful features give you.

When you select reverse, Rear View Monitor (RVM) projects the view from a wide-angle rear-mounted camera onto the centre display, allowing you to see exactly how close you're getting to other vehicles or objects. It's especially useful at night because the camera compensates for low light better than human eyes.

Surround View Monitor (SVM) builds on this by using side- and front-mounted cameras to create a bird’s-eye view of the car and its surroundings. It makes it possible to see obstacles that aren't visible through the windows or mirrors, and helps you manoeuvre confidently in or out of parking spaces.

[11] Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) can assist the driver by warning of other cars in the blind spot region. While your turn signal is on, it can alert you visually, by sound and/or by haptic feedback when equipped. It senses the rear side territory of the vehicle when it is traveling over approximately 12 mph. There are limitations to the function, range, detection and clarity of the system. It will not detect all vehicles or objects in the blind spot. Its operation depends on the size, distance, angle and relative speed difference between your car and other cars. BCW may not operate if sensors are obscured in any way. Do not rely exclusively on BCW. BCW is a supplemental system, and the driver must still be attentive and exercise caution when driving. It is the driver's responsibility to be aware of the surroundings and ensure it is clear before changing lanes or directions. See Owner’s Manual for further details and limitations.
