FAQs
The 2017 Audi R8 is representative of the second-generation version of the German firm’s incredible supercar that was offered for sale in the UK between 2016 and 2023. Available in both coupe and convertible form, the 2017 Audi R8 was available in two variants, the R8 and the R8 Plus. Both had the same 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine (the V8 from the first-generation R8 wasn’t carried over) and dual-clutch transmission, but the former had ‘just’ 533bhp while the latter pushed out 602bhp. Rest assured, both were devastatingly fast and incredibly enjoyable to drive, but perhaps more surprisingly, the R8 was actually comfortable and quiet enough to live with on a daily basis, too.## Strengths: Incredible V10 engine
Sensational pace and handling
Surprisingly comfortable and refined
## Weaknesses: Not as exotic as a Ferrari or Lamborghini
Expensive to buy and run, obviously
Not much luggage space
## Is the 2017 Audi R8 better than the 2017 Lamborghini Huracan? The two cars actually share quite a lot under the skin, including their platform and their V10 engine, so their appeal is quite similar. The Lamborghini is the more hard-edged and aggressive car of the pair, while the R8 can be more laid back when it wants to be, but still has the capacity to delight when you’re in the mood. For that duality, we marginally prefer the Audi, even though the Lambo is probably the more glamorous car of the pair.
