Sixty thousand pounds is an awful lot of money. If you were to spend that amount on a car, you’ll be expecting a lot in the way of virtues. And for that amount of money, you might well be expecting those virtues - rightly - to include fun.

But what if the f-word - fun - is your number one over-riding priority for your new car? What £60,000 car delivers it the best? You certainly have a wide range of options, and we've put together what we believe to be three of the best options on the new car market. The thing is, though, each of our contenders takes a very different approach to how it delivers on fun, so let's see what they are...
Contender 1: Alpine A110S
The lightweight sports car option
The Alpine A110S is not the most practical option with its two seats and minuscule luggage space, but with rear-wheel drive and a mid-mounted turbocharged petrol engine belting out 300 horsepower, boy-oh-boy does it deliver on fun.

Contender 2: Audi RS3
The hot hatch option
The Audi RS3 packs a 400 horsepower five-cylinder turbo engine, four-wheel-drive security and a whole bunch of other performance-enhancing gadgetry, all wrapped in a package that provides a prestige badge and family-friendly practicality.

Contender 3: Ford Mustang Mach 1
The muscle car option
The 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 under the Ford's long bonnet has a thumping 460 horsepower, while the Mach 1 edition’s adaptive suspension and various other modifications top off the Mustang’s iconic movie-star looks and an incredible soundtrack.
