Neither of these SUVs is designed to be a thrilling driver's car. The Qashqai focuses on comfort, with light steering and a ride that soaks up bumps well, particularly on smaller wheels. It keeps body lean in check through corners but doesn't feel as agile as some alternatives. Engine choices are a 1.3-litre mild hybrid or the more complex E-Power hybrid, both offering adequate performance.
The 3008 is a slight let-down on the road compared to its predecessor. The ride can feel a bit firm, and it’s less composed and engaging to drive. Engine options include a 1.2-litre mild hybrid and a 1.6-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Even the more powerful PHEV can feel a little sluggish when you ask for a burst of acceleration. For a relaxed and comfortable journey, the Qashqai has the edge.

In the Qashqai, all models come with a touchscreen infotainment system and smartphone mirroring as standard. Higher-spec trims get an upgraded 12.3-inch display which is clear, though can be a little fiddly to navigate. Equipment levels are good across the range, with even entry-level models getting LED headlights and adaptive cruise control.
The 3008 aims for a 'wow' factor with its huge, curved 21-inch display that combines the driver’s instruments and main infotainment screen. It looks futuristic and works reasonably well, supported by configurable 'i-Toggle' shortcut buttons below. All versions are well-equipped with features like ambient lighting and wireless phone charging. While the 3008’s screen is a talking point, the Qashqai offers a solid, well-equipped package for the price.

The Qashqai’s mild-hybrid petrol engine can return up to 44mpg, which is reasonable for this class of car. The E-Power hybrid has a better official economy figure, but in our real-world testing, we found it delivered similar mileage to the standard mild hybrid.
The 3008 mild hybrid claims up to 52.5mpg, though you’re likely to see a lower figure in normal driving. The plug-in hybrid is the one to choose for low running costs, provided you can charge it regularly at home to make the most of its electric range. Peugeot also offers a fully electric e-3008 model, which we’ve reviewed separately. For most buyers, there isn’t a significant difference in day-to-day costs between the standard hybrid versions of these two cars.
