low idle speed
hi all I have a Vauxhall Vectra c 1.8 sri petrol on a 53 plate done 90k the cam has been done anyway It seems to have a very low idle speed about 5500 to 6000 on rev counter this seems to have a problem when pull up to lights or stop it seems slow to respond when pulling away there are lots of comments on web what this could be but no defined reason why it dose this or how to fix it can anyone help many thanks in advance
700 rpm is a slow idle speed...5000-6000 is prime torque-zone for most 4- bangers....the vacuum advance will pull the timing forward, but if your advance bellows is defective, or the device for turning vacuum into electrical signal is not "givin' it the GO" then a trouble code should be issued by your computer~
Thanks for getting back so quickly so are you saying I need to go get diagnostics done then ?
...well phil would stop us from guessing...you can get a code reader, tho am quite certain the car has an onboard diagnostics feature by a certain jumper ignition in the on position and watching the number of flashes...although a bad fuel pressure regulator would do as you say with NO codes, but you may inspect this device...has a fuel connection and a vacuum connection which may be leaking, preventing full fuel pressure from getting to the engine....so the fuel pressure regulator is going to be my first guess (if you can find it)~
I think I will buy a coder reader but it will take a few days to come. but this may sound silly to some but you said turn the ignition on and watch for the flashes but what actually would be flashing ? and I will try and locate the fuel pressure regulator and have a look and replace with a new one and once I have the coder reader i'll get back to you with my findings again many thanks for your time and help :-)
read your instruction manual for self-diagnostic procedure....there will be a jumper to disconnect or some terminals to connect with a paperclip...then read the number of flashes...a legend as to what they mean should be provided....and where to "jumper" of disconnect (depending on the self- diagnostics of the car)~
the check engine light would flash~
...'low idle speed' that one is kind of mysterious....how many miles on the engine? has it had the timing belt or chain serviced in 80,000 miles? was suspecting a fuel pressure regulator leak, but that would mean "high idle"...now low idle must be the ECU not reading things right....the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor is a key instrument...the block Temp Sensor also plays a key role in setting the idle speed...your diagnostics as read by your autoparts store (for free) will tell us~
its done 90k and yes cam belt was done at 86k so it cant be that unless cam has been put on incorrectly I didn't do so I don't know but it was done by a mechanic so it should be right and as for going to autoparts store and have it read for free NOT A CHANCE nothing is for free my friend not in the uk anyway lol
in the states they WANT something wrong, that way they can SELL you the part...they don't expect that you'll extract the trouble codes and simply walk away....naaah, they want some of that damned money....they've got to pay for their kid's college, (we can't have junior a parts monkey?)~
Top Gear had a meeting of all the UK automakers and was astounded the NUMBER of them~ the us has three...and they are made by remote controlled robot....similar to the MINI line~
the MINI line at Oxford~_____ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5acuLs05kTg
