Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 - Rattling exhaust

Asked by Jul 17, 2015 at 09:10 AM about the 2003 Vauxhall Corsa

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My exhaust has started making a loud rattling noise when engine is running and the
car is stationary and when going round corners and travelling below 30mph. Above that
the noise seems to quieten considerably.
I've got it booked into the garage but just wanted an idea of what problems this may
mean and an idea of cost.
The car is a 2003.
The noise almost sounds like a metal ball rattling round a metal container.
It is very loud!

Most probably a heat shield from the catalytict convertor has rusted and is just hanging making a rattling noise. Have it re-tack welded on, or get a big worm style hose clamp to wrap around and hold it in place.
