2027 Renault Clio: styling and dimensions
The 2027 Renault Clio takes the supermini in a completely new design direction; Renault describes it as ‘chiselled, sensual and more Latin than ever’. It’s a major departure from both the current Clio and Renault’s other models, with a curvier and overtly sporty look.
At the front, the bonnet curves dramatically downwards into a front grille with diamond-shaped inserts. Either side of this are headlights that have pronounced black surrounds, while a wide lower air intake has large, arrow-shaped LED lighting at either side.
As with the current Clio there are concealed rear door handles at the side, but the new model’s black gloss wheel arch trim and coupe-like window line are a departure. The rear features a steeply sloping rear window and split tail lights that Renault says were ‘inspired by sportscars’. We can see shades of Chevrolet Corvette and various Ferrari models there, for sure.
Although it’s grown in every dimension, the new Clio remains much the same size as most other superminis. Increases are limited to an extra 67mm in length, 39mm in width and 11mm in height. The wheelbase is 8mm longer, too.
2027 Renault Clio: interior design and practicality
While the exterior design is likely to divide opinion, Renault has played things safe with the interior of the new Clio, with a design that’s similar to that in its current models. No bad thing, we’d argue, since these are some of the most appealing yet user-friendly around.
A pair of 10.1-inch screens form a widescreen display that stretches across much of the dashboard. It features the same OpenR Link system that’s available in most larger Renaults and which includes Google built-in functionality and connected services including Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play (with access to more than 100 apps).
The small increase in wheelbase should mean slightly better legroom in the back seats, while maximum boot capacity (for petrol models) matches the old car at 391 litres – well ahead of any other mainstream supermini. As with the current car, the hybrid has a smaller boot because of where its battery is located but a capacity of 309 litres is still very competitive for the class.
2027 Renault Clio: engines and driving dynamics
Like the outgoing model, the Clio will be available with either petrol or hybrid power. The petrol option is a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder unit that gives increased performance and fuel efficiency compared with the current car’s 1.0-litre engine. Average fuel economy is up to 72.4mpg (from 67.3mpg), while power is up from 89bhp to 113bhp and the 0-62mpgh time drops from 12.2 seconds to 10.1 seconds. It comes with a manual gearbox as standard.
The hybrid has a completely new powertrain that combines a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors for a total output of 158bhp. It delivers average fuel economy of 72.4mpg (up from 67.3mpg) and Renault claims it can give electric-only driving for up to 80% of the time in urban areas. It has an automatic gearbox that features four ratios for the engine and two for the electric motors – technology inspired by Formula 1, Renault says.
2027 Renault Clio: price and release date
Renault hasn’t confirmed prices for the new Clio but we’d expect a small increase over the current model, which starts at £18,995 for petrol models and £21,895 for hybrid versions.
The new Clio is due to go on sale in Europe in 2026 but it’s not expected to arrive in UK showrooms until 2027. In the meantime the current Clio is expected to remain on sale.
