Overview

In true Land Rover Discovery style, the name Discovery 4 is a bit of a misnomer. You see, just as the Discovery Series II had been merely a reheated version of the Series I, meaning both variants constitute the car’s first generation, the Discovery 4 is simply a tinkered-with version of the Discovery 3, making both cars members of the Discovery’s second generation. Confused? Well, blame Land Rover, not us. With the Discovery 3 going on sale in 2004, this means that in the particular case of the 2013 Land Rover Discovery, the basic technology within was already nine years old, and it would only be another three years until it was replaced.

Strengths:

Hugely spacious and practical seven-seat cabin
Comfortable on-road and unstoppable off it
Pleasant interior

Weaknesses:

Disappointing reliability record
Immense weight dents efficiency and performance
Rivals are sharper in the bends

Is the 2013 Land Rover Discovery 4 better than the 2013 Audi Q7?

Both cars have huge, versatile cabins with seven genuinely usable seats and impressive cabin quality. The Land Rover’s cabin is marginally roomier, so it’s the slightly more practical car, and if you ever want to go off-road, then it’s the only choice. However, if tidier on-road manners are your priority, it’s the Audi you want.
