Audi A5 (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Tech-focused interior | Not as sharp to drive as a BMW 3 Series |
| Wide range of powertrains including diesel | Digital displays might prove overwhelming |
| Covers long distances with ease | Too many functions rely on touchscreen |
Quick Summary
The latest Audi A5 (2024-present) marks a significant evolution, taking over the role of the A4 and A4 Avant, and blurring the lines between traditional saloons and hatchbacks. This premium family car offers a practical hatchback configuration with a boot space of 445 litres (417 litres for quattro models) and generous rear passenger room. Despite a confusing naming strategy, it directly rivals the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, as well as the BMW 4 Series due to its new design.
Driving the A5 offers a refined experience, with diesel models achieving close to 50mpg in real-world conditions, and petrol versions around 40mpg, aided by the MHEV Plus mild hybrid system in the diesel. Its interior is dominated by screens, including an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch central touchscreen, though the heavy reliance on touch controls might not suit everyone. With strong residual values and competitive running costs, the A5 is a compelling option for those seeking a premium, comfortable, and capable long-distance cruiser.
Best for: Drivers seeking a premium family car with excellent refinement, smart technology, and a capable drive; those prioritizing practicality with a hatchback configuration; high-mileage drivers valuing fuel efficiency.
Not ideal for: Buyers who prefer physical controls over extensive touchscreens; those looking for a sportier, more engaging driving experience than rivals like the BMW 3 Series; customers confused by Audi's recent naming conventions.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

| Mercedes C-Class | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 33.1% | 4.4/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the A5 if: You're after a premium family car that delivers excellent refinement, smart technology, and a capable drive, especially if you value the practicality of a hatchback.
Consider alternatives if: You prefer physical controls over extensive touchscreens, desire a sportier driving experience, or are confused by Audi's recent model naming changes.
Competitive Position: The Audi A5 (2024-present) successfully merges the legacy of the A4 with a more practical hatchback design, making it a strong contender in the premium executive car segment. It offers an impressive blend of performance, efficiency (especially the diesel), and high-quality interior tech. While its driving dynamics are more precise than exciting, and the touchscreen-heavy interior may not appeal to all, its comfort, capability, and strong residual values position it as a compelling choice against rivals like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, particularly for those seeking a refined long-distance cruiser.

(34 reviews)Happy with the car and very helpful nice owner! Highly recommend
Car is good value for money and well finished off
Perfect model with ideal specs (any model or trim) for our needs. Also fantastic build quality and if any repairs required not as expensive as you would think!
2009 A5 S-Line 3.0TDI Quattro Absolute beast of a car. Handles incredibly well for its size and has no issues with getting you to the speed limit in very little time. Huge boot which is only held back by the small tailgate on the Coupe. Averages around 40mpg on motorway runs and around 34mpg on short journeys but the smiles you get from it on the way make up for that. A serious car for serious torque lovers, would definitely recommend.
Quality Audi vehicle. Stylish practical 5 door coupe that in quattro form has stunning capability and very safe road holding.
