Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Low levels of wind and road noise | Boot is small by class standards |
| Lots of space for passengers | Interior quality not as good as previous A6 |
| Smart styling helps it to stand out | Limited engine range |
Quick Summary
The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) is a premium estate car that combines elegant styling with a smooth, refined driving experience. It offers impressive passenger space with generous leg and head room, making it ideal for long-distance journeys. The cabin features a slick interior with advanced technology, including a large central touchscreen, virtual cockpit display, and comprehensive safety features. Three powertrain options are available: a 2.0-litre petrol TFSI with front-wheel drive, a 2.0-litre mild hybrid diesel TDI with four-wheel drive, and a plug-in hybrid e-hybrid variant offering up to 63 miles of electric-only range.
However, the A6 Avant has notable shortcomings. The boot is disappointingly small for its class, offering just 503 litres in petrol models, 466 litres in diesel versions, and only 404 litres in the plug-in hybrid—less spacious than many rivals and even some smaller cars. Fuel efficiency is modest, with the petrol achieving 30-35mpg and the diesel around 40-45mpg in real-world driving. The mild hybrid diesel system can feel juddering at low speeds, and company car tax on the plug-in hybrid is significantly higher than competitors. Service costs follow Audi's flexible or fixed regimes, with servicing required every 9,300 miles or annually at minimum.
Best for: Buyers prioritising a quiet, comfortable motorway cruiser with premium badge appeal and advanced technology, and those seeking spacious rear seating for passengers.
Not ideal for: Those requiring a genuinely large boot, budget-conscious buyers seeking excellent fuel economy, or company car users considering the plug-in hybrid variant.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audi A6 Avant | 3/5 | 4.2/5 | 30.4% | 4.0/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz E-Class | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 33.7% | 4.4/5 |
| Volvo V90 | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 33.7% | 4.2/5 |
| BMW 5 Series | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 33.8% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the A6 Avant if: You prioritise a quiet, comfortable motorway cruiser with premium styling and advanced technology, and value spacious rear seating for passengers.
Consider alternatives if: You require a genuinely large boot, seek excellent fuel economy, or are a company car user considering the plug-in hybrid variant.
Competitive Position: The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) is a capable premium estate, but it faces stiff competition from stronger rivals. Whilst it undercuts the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series Touring on price and delivers a refined, quiet driving experience, its disappointingly small boot—smaller than many competitors—is a significant drawback for an estate car. The Volvo V90 and BMW 5 Series both score higher with users and experts, offering better value propositions. The A6 Avant is best suited to those prioritising comfort and technology over practicality, though its limited engine range and modest fuel economy further diminish its appeal in this competitive segment.
