Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Low levels of wind and road noise | Boot is small by class standards |
| Lots of space for passengers | Interior quality not as good as previous A6 |
| Smart styling helps it to stand out | Limited engine range |
Quick Summary
The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) is a premium estate car that combines elegant styling with a smooth, refined driving experience. It offers generous passenger space with excellent rear legroom and comfortable, supportive front seats ideal for long-distance travel. The car features a well-equipped interior with modern technology, including adaptive LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and a comprehensive suite of safety features across all trim levels. Three powertrain options are available: a 2.0-litre petrol TFSI with front-wheel drive, a 2.0-litre diesel TDI with four-wheel drive, and a plug-in hybrid e-hybrid variant offering up to 63 miles of electric-only range.
However, the A6 Avant falls short in key areas. The boot is disappointingly small by class standards, with only 503 litres for petrol models, 466 litres for diesel, and just 404 litres for the plug-in hybrid—less spacious than some smaller rivals. Fuel economy is modest, with petrol models achieving 30-35mpg and diesel around 40-45mpg in real-world driving. The mild hybrid diesel system can exhibit juddering at low speeds, and the infotainment system, whilst functional, feels somewhat labyrinthine to navigate. For company car users, the plug-in hybrid incurs significantly higher tax than competitors despite offering identical power output.
Best for: Buyers seeking a premium, quiet, and comfortable estate car for long-distance motorway driving, those prioritising passenger comfort and space, and those wanting the Audi badge appeal.
Not ideal for: Families needing maximum boot space, budget-conscious buyers, those seeking the best fuel economy in the class, or company car users considering the plug-in hybrid variant.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audi A6 Avant | 3/5 | 4.2/5 | 30.8% | 4.0/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 33.6% | 4.4/5 |
| Volvo V90 | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 29.7% | 4.2/5 |
| BMW 5 Series Touring | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 33.4% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the A6 Avant if: You prioritise a premium, quiet, and comfortable estate car for long-distance motorway driving, value passenger comfort and space, or desire the Audi badge appeal.
Consider alternatives if: You need maximum boot space, seek the best fuel economy in the class, require excellent value for money, or are a company car user considering the plug-in hybrid variant.
Competitive Position: The Audi A6 Avant is a capable premium estate, but it struggles to make a compelling case against its rivals. Whilst it undercuts the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate and BMW 5 Series Touring on price, it falls short on practicality with a disappointingly small boot—a critical shortcoming for an estate car. The Mercedes and BMW both score higher on user ratings and offer better value propositions. The Volvo V90 achieves an exceptional user rating of 5.0 out of 5, making it a strong alternative for those seeking Scandinavian refinement. The A6 Avant excels at providing a smooth, quiet, and comfortable driving experience, but its limited boot space, modest fuel economy, and complex infotainment system make it a missed opportunity in a highly competitive segment.
