Audi e-tron GT (2021-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Tremendous acceleration and satisfying handling	A Porsche Taycan is even better to drive
Long range and rapid charging ability	If practicality is a priority, the Tesla Model S has the edge
Better value than a Porsche Taycan	Two-speed 'box changes gear with a thump

Quick Summary

The Audi e-tron GT is a large, sleek electric saloon launched in 2021, sharing its platform, battery and motors with the Porsche Taycan. This low-slung, performance-focused GT car combines luxury with genuine sporting ability, offering impressive acceleration and engaging handling. The 2024 update introduced a larger 105kWh battery for an official minimum WLTP range exceeding 360 miles, alongside subtle styling refinements. With a comfortable driving position, good storage for personal items, and a 350-litre boot, it caters to those seeking an exclusive, high-performance electric alternative to traditional luxury saloons.

The e-tron GT delivers smooth, seamless progress with comical acceleration—even the entry-level model reaches 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds (3.4 seconds post-facelift). The RS variant offers up to 844bhp, with the RS Performance achieving 912bhp and a 2.5-second 0-62mph time. Air suspension provides excellent ride comfort whilst maintaining sharp body control. The interior is classy and well-finished, featuring a responsive 10.1-inch touchscreen with navigation, Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. However, as a premium electric GT car, purchase costs exceed £100,000, with expensive tyres, insurance and finance payments. Running costs benefit from lower fuel and tax expenses compared to petrol or diesel equivalents, particularly when charging at home.

Best for: Buyers seeking an exclusive, high-performance electric saloon with luxury appointments, impressive acceleration and engaging handling, plus those wanting better value than a Porsche Taycan.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising maximum practicality (Tesla Model S offers more space), drivers wanting the finest handling dynamics (Porsche Taycan edges ahead), or budget-conscious buyers given the premium purchase price and running costs.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the e-tron GT if: You're seeking an exclusive, high-performance electric saloon with luxury appointments, impressive acceleration and engaging handling, or want better value than a Porsche Taycan.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise maximum practicality, want the finest handling dynamics, or require a more budget-friendly option given the premium purchase and running costs.

Competitive Position: The Audi e-tron GT is a compelling choice for those wanting a premium electric GT car with genuine performance credentials. Whilst the Porsche Taycan offers superior handling finesse and the Tesla Model S provides greater practicality, the e-tron GT strikes an excellent balance between luxury, performance and value. Its classy interior, responsive infotainment system and smooth, powerful electric drivetrain make it one of the finest plush sports GTs available. The 2024 update's larger battery and extended range further enhance its appeal as a used purchase, particularly for buyers seeking exclusivity and dynamic ability without compromising on comfort or technology.
