Audi Q2 (2016-2025) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
The interior is a cut above	Cramped rear seats and modest boot space
Most engines are fuel efficient	Firmer ride of S Line models
Quirky styling makes a change from Audi's usual conservatism	It's an expensive used buy

Quick Summary

The Audi Q2 (2016-2025) is the entry-level SUV in Audi's successful line-up and the company's smallest, high-riding crossover. Its bold, quirky styling sets it apart from Audi's usual conservative approach, featuring creased flanks, a prominent grille, and distinctive intakes. Despite tight rear seats and only average boot space compared to rivals like the BMW X1, the Q2 has become one of Audi's biggest sellers, tapping perfectly into the current compact crossover and SUV market. The cabin is exceptional, with dignified class, excellent material quality, and user-friendly controls including an MMI dial-controlled infotainment system supplemented by physical buttons and knobs.

Most petrol-powered Q2s are front-wheel drive, with quattro four-wheel drive reserved for diesel models and the range-topping SQ2. The Q2 is competent and unremarkable to drive, with light steering, acceptable ride comfort, and sufficient grip for confident cornering. Engine choices include efficient petrol and diesel options, with the 35 TDI quattro achieving up to 50.4mpg and the 35 TFSI manual returning 47.9mpg. Running costs are competitive, with fixed-fee servicing available from Audi and strong residual values offsetting the premium purchase price. The SQ2 variant offers 295bhp for those seeking more thrills, though with correspondingly higher running costs.

Best for: Buyers seeking a premium-badged compact SUV with an exceptional interior, those prioritising fuel efficiency, and drivers wanting distinctive styling that stands out from the crowd.

Not ideal for: Those needing maximum rear seat space or boot capacity, buyers on a tight budget, or drivers expecting dynamic, thrilling handling characteristics.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Q2 if: You're seeking a premium-badged compact SUV with an exceptional interior, prioritising fuel efficiency, or wanting distinctive styling that stands out from the crowd.

Consider alternatives if: You need maximum rear seat space or boot capacity, are on a tight budget, or expect dynamic, thrilling handling characteristics.

Competitive Position: The Audi Q2 (2016-2025) is a strong contender in the premium compact SUV segment, offering an exceptional interior and distinctive styling that sets it apart from rivals. Whilst the MINI Countryman offers better value for money and the Volkswagen T-Roc provides a more dependable alternative, the Q2's superior cabin quality and user-friendly controls make it an excellent choice for buyers prioritising premium feel and efficiency. The Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class offers comparable prestige but at a higher price point. The Q2's strong residual values and efficient engines make it a sensible investment, though space-conscious buyers may find alternatives more practical.
