BMW 3 Series (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Sharp steering and agile handling | Sporty suspension makes for a firm ride |
| Fuel-sipping diesels and plug-in hybrid | Not as roomy as some cheaper mainstream rivals |
| Beautifully finished cabin | Restricted engine choice if you want a manual gearbox |
Quick Summary
The BMW 3 Series (2019-present) upholds its reputation as the benchmark for mid-size, sporty executive cars, blending understated style, robust quality, and a premium image with an engaging driving experience. While not revolutionary in practicality, its 480-litre boot (375 litres for the 330e plug-in hybrid) and comfortable rear seating accommodate families well, with a Touring estate option enhancing cargo space. The interior is meticulously finished, featuring plush materials and an evolving infotainment system that includes a modern curved display and the intuitive iDrive controller.
Driving dynamics are a strong suit, characterised by sharp steering, precise handling, and ample grip, though the firm ride may not suit all preferences. A diverse range of efficient engines, including petrol, diesel, and the popular 330e plug-in hybrid with up to 63 miles of electric range, caters to varied needs. Running costs are competitive for its class, and the use of metal timing chains contributes to reduced long-term maintenance.
Best for: Drivers seeking a sporty and involving driving experience, those who value a premium, beautifully finished cabin, and buyers looking for efficient engine options including plug-in hybrids.
Not ideal for: Buyers who prioritise a plush, comfortable ride over sporty handling, those needing maximum boot space in an estate compared to rivals, or those on a tighter budget compared to mainstream alternatives.

The Verdict
You should buy the 3 Series if: You're looking for a small sports saloon with sharp handling, a beautifully finished cabin, efficient engine options (including PHEV), and a premium image.
Consider alternatives if: You prefer a softer, more comfortable ride, need class-leading estate boot capacity, or are on a strict budget where mainstream alternatives might offer better value.
Competitive Position: The BMW 3 Series (2019-present) remains the segment leader, offering an exceptional blend of driving dynamics, premium interior quality, and efficient powertrains. While its firm ride might not suit everyone, it consistently outperforms rivals like the Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class in driving engagement. Its wide range of available versions (especially on the used market) and strong residual values make it a compelling choice for those seeking a high-quality executive saloon, even with strong competition from its German counterparts and options like the Jaguar XE.

4.3 Overall rating
(54 reviews)Perfect with a good spec, lovely and really smooth to drive.
Car is absolutely fantastic, was the perfect fit from the word go!
Great car, wouldve liked leather seats but other than that, I cant fault it
Loved every feature....not 1 problem reliable car. Would get one again.
It very depends on the options fitted in terms of features as they are all different. The stereo isnt the best as I dont have the HK stereo, and the interface isnt as good as my Golf. It isnt as luxurious as my wifes E Class either. but what it does have , is the feeling of being connected as one to the road. The engines excellent and its very rewarding to drive if you enjoy doing just that. Love it
