Bentley Bentayga (2015-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Incredibly sumptuous interior | Hugely expensive |
| Smooth driving manners | High running costs |
| Capable off-road | Not as spacious in the back as you might expect |
Quick Summary
The Bentley Bentayga (2015-present) is an unmistakably luxurious SUV that commands attention on the road. With its distinctive front end reminiscent of the Continental GT and bulging bodywork, it announces its presence loudly. The interior is exceptionally lavish, featuring leather throughout, premium wood or aluminium trim, and knurled switchgear. Available in four, five, or seven-seat configurations, it offers flexibility between exclusivity and practicality, though rear legroom is surprisingly constrained given the vehicle's immense size.
Performance is effortless across all engine options, from the efficient diesel to the powerful W12 and Speed variants. The air suspension delivers a comfortable, wafting ride over larger bumps, though smaller imperfections can filter through. Boot space is disappointing for a car of this scale, with the four-seat model offering just 382 litres. Running costs are substantial, with fuel economy ranging from 25-30 mpg for the diesel to around 15 mpg for the W12. However, all engines feature a metal timing chain designed to last the vehicle's lifetime, reducing long-term maintenance concerns. The Bentayga delivers unparalleled opulence in an SUV body, combining Bentley's trademark luxury with practical SUV versatility.
Best for: Buyers seeking ultimate luxury and prestige, those prioritising sumptuous interiors and smooth driving manners, and customers wanting an SUV with distinctive presence and off-road capability.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those concerned with fuel economy or running costs, or customers requiring maximum rear legroom and boot space.

The Verdict
You should buy the Bentayga if: You seek ultimate luxury and prestige, prioritise sumptuous interiors and smooth driving manners, or want an SUV with distinctive presence and off-road capability.
Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious, concerned with fuel economy or running costs, or require maximum rear legroom and boot space.
Competitive Position: The Bentley Bentayga (2015-present) stands as a pinnacle of luxury SUVs, offering unmatched opulence and distinctive styling. Whilst the Land Rover Range Rover provides comparable practicality and value, and the Aston Martin DBX matches the Bentayga's user ratings, the Bentayga's sumptuous interior and smooth driving manners set it apart. The Mercedes-Benz GLS offers a more understated alternative, though with lower overall ratings. For buyers prioritising prestige, luxury, and off-road capability above all else, the Bentayga delivers an unparalleled ownership experience, despite its substantial purchase and running costs.
