Citroen C4 Picasso (2013-2018) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Surprising kerbside appeal for an MPV | Not as sharp to drive as a Ford C-Max |
| Airy and spacious interior | Citroen has a poor reputation for reliability |
| Low running costs, especially if you choose a diesel | Some rivals have longer warranties |
Quick Summary
The Citroen C4 Picasso (2013-2018) is a stylish five-seat MPV that defies the notion that people carriers must look dull. With its LED daytime running lights, well-proportioned profile, and handsome rear, the C4 Picasso offers genuine kerbside appeal. The interior is equally impressive, featuring an airy, spacious cabin with a clean, unfussy dashboard. The three equally-sized rear seats move independently, providing excellent flexibility, whilst the 537-litre boot expands to 1,851 litres with the rear seats folded flat—only the Volkswagen Touran offers more space.
Comfort is a priority, with excellent ride quality that absorbs bumps and broken surfaces effectively. Around 90% of C4 Picassos were sold with diesel engines, delivering impressive real-world fuel economy of 60-65mpg from the 1.6-litre HDi variants, with the BlueHDi 120 offering the best balance of power and efficiency. Petrol options, including the 1.2 PureTech, are also available for town-focused drivers. Insurance groups are low (14-25 out of 50), and Citroen offers affordable servicing and fixed-price maintenance plans. The C4 Picasso is a class leader in many ways, offering the best all-round package in the five-seat MPV sector.
Best for: Families seeking spacious, comfortable, and stylish transport with low running costs, particularly those prioritising diesel efficiency and flexible seating arrangements.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising sharp handling (like a Ford C-Max), those concerned about reliability, or buyers seeking extended warranty coverage.

The Verdict
You should buy the C4 Picasso if: You're seeking spacious, comfortable, and stylish family transport with low running costs, particularly if you prioritise diesel efficiency and flexible seating arrangements.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sharp handling, have concerns about reliability, or require extended warranty coverage as standard.
Competitive Position: The Citroen C4 Picasso (2013-2018) is a class leader in the five-seat MPV sector, offering the best all-round package. It boasts surprising kerbside appeal for an MPV and an airy, spacious interior that rivals the Volkswagen Touran for practicality. Whilst it doesn't match the Ford C-Max for driving dynamics and Citroen's reliability reputation lags behind competitors like the Toyota Verso and Kia Carens, the C4 Picasso's combination of style, comfort, low running costs, and excellent value makes it an outstanding choice for families prioritising practicality and affordability over sporting credentials.

5 Overall rating
(11 reviews)Everything you need, very roomy and comfortable, great value, cheap to repair and very reliable.
Spacious, stylish, comfortable, handles well and economical in the diesel format.
The car has so many features which help the pleasure of driving it. For me it is the best car I have bought in comparison to similar models of other cars. Parts are made to last which is a great plus if you drive a lot distance wise.
Top of the range model compares favourably with rival MPV ‘s such as the Ford C-Max in looks, specification and fuel economy.
This is a very will equipped version of a excellent car
