Citroen C4 Picasso (2013-2018) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Surprising kerbside appeal for an MPV | Not as sharp to drive as a Ford C-Max |
| Airy and spacious interior | Citroen has a poor reputation for reliability |
| Low running costs, especially if you choose a diesel | Some rivals have longer warranties |
Quick Summary
The Citroen C4 Picasso (2013-2018) is a stylish and practical five-seat MPV that defies the notion that people carriers must be dull. With its distinctive design, including LED daytime running lights and a well-proportioned profile, it offers genuine kerbside appeal. The interior is equally impressive, feeling airy and spacious with a clean, unfussy dashboard. Practicality is a strong suit, featuring three equally sized rear seats that slide independently, generous headroom and legroom, and a flexible boot that expands from 537 litres to 1,851 litres with the seats folded flat.
While not matching rivals like the Ford C-Max for sharp driving dynamics, the C4 Picasso prioritises comfort, absorbing bumps and road imperfections effectively. Engine performance is adequate rather than exhilarating, with 0-62mph times around 10 seconds, and diesel options generally remain quiet. Running costs are low, especially for the popular diesel engines which can achieve 60-65mpg in real-world driving. Insurance groups are modest, and Citroen offers affordable service plans, making it an economical choice for families. Trims range from VTR to Exclusive+, offering increasing levels of equipment including advanced infotainment and driver aids.
Best for: Families prioritising space, comfort, distinctive design, and low running costs in an MPV.
Not ideal for: Buyers seeking class-leading reliability, the sharpest driving dynamics, or powerful performance.

The Verdict
You should buy the C4 Picasso if: You prioritise space, comfort, distinctive design, and low running costs for family transport.
Consider alternatives if: You seek class-leading reliability, sharper driving dynamics, or more powerful performance.
Competitive Position: The Citroen C4 Picasso (2013-2018) is a strong contender in the used five-seat MPV market, offering a unique blend of style, practicality, and comfort. Its distinctive design and airy, spacious interior set it apart, making it an excellent choice for families. While it may not match rivals like the Ford C-Max for engaging driving dynamics or the Toyota Verso for reliability, its low running costs and overall value proposition make it a highly sensible and appealing option for budget-conscious buyers who desire a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing people carrier.

5 Overall rating
(11 reviews)Everything you need, very roomy and comfortable, great value, cheap to repair and very reliable.
Spacious, stylish, comfortable, handles well and economical in the diesel format.
The car has so many features which help the pleasure of driving it. For me it is the best car I have bought in comparison to similar models of other cars. Parts are made to last which is a great plus if you drive a lot distance wise.
Top of the range model compares favourably with rival MPV ‘s such as the Ford C-Max in looks, specification and fuel economy.
This is a very will equipped version of a excellent car
