Citroen C4 Picasso (2013-2018) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Surprising kerbside appeal for an MPV | Not as sharp to drive as a Ford C-Max |
| Airy and spacious interior | Citroen has a poor reputation for reliability |
| Low running costs, especially if you choose a diesel | Some rivals have longer warranties |
Quick Summary
The Citroen C4 Picasso (2013-2018) is a stylish and practical five-seater MPV that challenged the perception of dull people carriers. It boasts an airy, spacious interior with three independent, sliding rear seats offering ample headroom and legroom for adults. Its versatile boot provides 537 litres, expanding to 630 litres with seats slid forward, and a massive 1,851 litres with seats folded flat.
While not as dynamic as some rivals, the C4 Picasso prioritises comfort, offering a smooth ride that absorbs bumps well, making it ideal for families. Engine performance is adequate rather than exhilarating, with diesel options like the 1.6 HDi (60-65mpg real world) being popular for their efficiency, and a 1.2 PureTech petrol offering around 40-45mpg. Running costs are generally low, with many diesels qualifying for free pre-2017 road tax and affordable insurance. Standard features include dual-zone climate control and a 7-inch touchscreen, with higher trims adding digital instrumentation, sat-nav, and advanced driver aids.
Best for: Families needing space and practicality, those prioritising comfort over sporty handling, buyers seeking low running costs, and those who appreciate stylish MPV design.
Not ideal for: Drivers who prioritise sharp handling and performance, or those concerned about Citroen's reputation for reliability.

The Verdict
You should buy the C4 Picasso if: You need a spacious, practical, and comfortable family car with stylish looks and low running costs.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise driving dynamics, or are concerned about long-term reliability.
Competitive Position: The Citroen C4 Picasso (2013-2018) stands out in the five-seat MPV segment for its distinctive styling, airy and flexible interior, and excellent ride comfort. While it may not offer the most engaging driving experience compared to a Ford C-Max, or the top-tier reliability of some Japanese or Korean rivals, its comprehensive package of practicality, low running costs, and strong equipment levels make it a highly competitive and attractive choice for families.

5 Overall rating
(11 reviews)Everything you need, very roomy and comfortable, great value, cheap to repair and very reliable.
Spacious, stylish, comfortable, handles well and economical in the diesel format.
The car has so many features which help the pleasure of driving it. For me it is the best car I have bought in comparison to similar models of other cars. Parts are made to last which is a great plus if you drive a lot distance wise.
Top of the range model compares favourably with rival MPV ‘s such as the Ford C-Max in looks, specification and fuel economy.
This is a very will equipped version of a excellent car
