Fiat Doblo (2010-2020) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Lots of cabin space	Disappointing safety rating from Euro NCAP
Sliding rear doors make getting in and out easy	Not very well equipped
Affordable used car prices	The ride is bouncy

Quick Summary

The Fiat Doblo (2010-2020) is a small van with windows—a spacious, practical people carrier with a compact footprint and affordable price tag. The second-generation model arrived in 2010 with an upright, boxy body reflecting its commercial vehicle origins. It offers exceptional interior space, with room for five as standard, and an enormous boot that surpasses rivals like the Citroën Berlingo Multispace and Peugeot Partner Tepee. Headroom is plentiful throughout, and sliding rear doors make access easy. The high driving position provides comfort on long journeys, though the ride is bouncy and engines can sound rough at speed.

Engine options include a 94bhp 1.4-litre petrol and two diesels: a 103bhp 1.6-litre and 133bhp 2.0-litre Multijet. Diesel variants offer better mid-range pulling power and fuel economy, typically achieving 40-45mpg in real-world driving. A 2015 facelift improved aesthetics and added sound insulation. Equipment levels are modest, with entry-level Pop models spartan and higher trims offering parking sensors, cruise control, and Bluetooth connectivity. Insurance groups are exceptionally low, and running costs are affordable, particularly with diesel engines. The Doblo prioritises function over form, making it an excellent value proposition for practical buyers.

Best for: Practical buyers seeking maximum interior space, families needing a spacious people carrier, and those prioritising affordability and low running costs.

Not ideal for: Buyers wanting premium equipment, a smooth ride, or a car that prioritises driving dynamics over practicality.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Doblo if: You prioritise practicality and interior space, need an affordable people carrier, or seek low running costs and minimal maintenance expenses.

Consider alternatives if: You want premium equipment, a smooth ride, superior driving dynamics, or a higher safety rating from Euro NCAP.

Competitive Position: The Fiat Doblo (2010-2020) is an excellent value proposition in the used people carrier market, offering exceptional interior space and affordability. Whilst rivals like the Ford S-Max and Citroën Grand C4 Picasso provide better driving dynamics and higher equipment levels, the Doblo's straightforward practicality, low running costs, and budget-friendly pricing make it ideal for cost-conscious buyers. The Peugeot 5008 SUV offers a more modern alternative with better safety credentials, but at a premium. For those prioritising space and value over refinement, the Doblo remains a sensible choice.
