Ford Ka+ (2016-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| More practical than most city cars | Dull looks |
| The majority of Ka+ models have smartphone mirroring | Lacklustre engines |
| Supple ride | Down-market interior |
Quick Summary
The Ford Ka+ (2016-2020) was designed as a more spacious and practical replacement for the original Ka, built on the same platform as the larger Fiesta. Positioned between city cars and superminis, it offered improved interior space, especially for adults in the rear, thanks to a higher roofline. While its 270-litre boot capacity was decent for a city car, the cabin prioritised versatility with hard-wearing plastics over premium aesthetics.
Benefiting from its Fiesta underpinnings, the Ka+ delivered direct steering and a supple ride, handling varied road surfaces well. However, it was let down by its older, less powerful 1.2-litre petrol engines, with a 94bhp 1.5-litre diesel added in 2018 offering better performance for longer journeys. Running costs were low, with reasonable fuel economy and affordable insurance. Despite a 2018 facelift, its bland styling and basic interior meant it struggled against rivals and was discontinued in 2020.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, those seeking practicality and space in a small car, or buyers prioritising a comfortable ride.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising premium interior feel, exciting performance, or stylish looks.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

| Ford Ka+ | 2/5 | 4.3/5 | 35.8% | 3.9/5 |

| Hyundai i10 | 5/5 | 4.7/5 | 26.7% | 4.5/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Ka+ if: You're on a budget, seeking a practical and spacious small car, or prioritise a comfortable ride.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium interior feel, exciting performance, or stylish looks.
Competitive Position: The Ford Ka+ (2016-2020) aimed to bridge the gap between city cars and superminis, offering more practicality and space than many city car rivals, underpinned by the capable Fiesta platform. While its handling and ride quality are commendable, its bland styling, cheap interior, and lacklustre engines ultimately hindered its success. It offers good value and low running costs, but competitors like the Hyundai i10 or Skoda Citigo provide a more compelling overall package with better interiors and more engaging engines.

4.4 Overall rating
(3 reviews)This car is particularly good value if it includes the winter and City packs.
The car feels somewhat dated compared to rivals. The interior does not have much quality with a tiny entertainment screen. The lower powered model felt very underpowered so, Id consider paying the extra for the far better Fiesta.
Ka features are excellent for me. Good value for money.. to me nothing is missing. I like the facia layout. I’m an old geezer, and as I have broken my femur, I find it hard to get into my fiesta, the Ka is quite a few inches higher, I’m just looking for the best one at present, within my price range.
