Good light worker, efficient, affordable, good value. Has some go in the higher revs should it be needed.

I know that it is known as quite boxy especially inside but the 2010 version rather than the 2009 seemed well thought through and it looked great for its value on the outside. Such a reliable vehicle but I needed to have taken a bit more care over the bumps etc.

A very good alternative to Fiesta or Polo and a lot cheaper than the Volkswagon.

Hyundai i20 Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Well equipped, even if you choose the entry-level car | Patchy standard of interior finish |
| Easy-to-use touchscreen infotainment | Not the cheapest to buy |
| Solid reliability and a long warranty | Fuel economy is unspectacular |
Quick Summary
The Hyundai i20 is a sensible, practical small car that has evolved into a genuinely compelling proposition. This latest generation offers impressive equipment levels across the range, with even the entry-level model featuring a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that ranks amongst the best in its class. The five-door layout provides plenty of head and legroom for rear passengers, whilst the 352-litre boot matches rivals like the VW Polo. With a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and solid reliability credentials, the i20 represents a reassuring choice for buyers seeking a grown-up, stable small car.
Recent revisions to the range have made the i20 far more competitively priced, erasing its previous disadvantage against rivals like the Renault Clio, Vauxhall Corsa and Seat Ibiza. The 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is willing and efficient, available with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Whilst fuel economy is unspectacular at around 45mpg in real-world driving, running costs remain reasonable. The i20 delivers comfortable, refined driving with good handling and plenty of grip, making it an excellent motorway companion despite its modest size.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking a well-equipped, reliable small car with excellent warranty coverage, families requiring practical interior space, and those who value intuitive infotainment technology.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising the finest interior quality or premium badge appeal, those seeking class-leading fuel economy, or drivers wanting the most engaging handling dynamics.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai i20 | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 36.3% | 4.4/5 |
| Renault Clio | 3/5 | 4.7/5 | 36.6% | 4.3/5 |
| Volkswagen Polo | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 35.3% | 4.5/5 |
| Toyota Yaris | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 34.1% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the i20 if: You're seeking a well-equipped, reliable small car with excellent warranty coverage, need practical interior space, or value intuitive infotainment technology and competitive pricing.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium interior quality, require class-leading fuel economy, or want the most engaging handling dynamics available in the supermini class.
Competitive Position: The Hyundai i20 is now a genuinely competitive proposition in the supermini market. Whilst the VW Polo offers superior interior quality and the Toyota Yaris delivers better fuel economy, the i20 outshines both on equipment levels and warranty coverage. It matches the Renault Clio on value and practicality, but offers a more intuitive infotainment system. For budget-conscious buyers seeking a sensible, well-equipped small car with solid reliability and peace of mind, the i20 represents excellent value and a highly sensible choice.
