Hyundai i800 (2008-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| One of the few cars with room for eight | Poor fuel economy |
| Lots of luggage space | Interior quality could be better |
| Cheap to buy | Huge size makes finding a parking space a challenge |
Quick Summary
The Hyundai i800 (2008-2019) is a full eight-seater people carrier based on the iLoad van platform, offering exceptional practicality for large families. At over five metres long and nearly two metres high, it provides 851 litres of boot space with all seats in place, plus spacious, full-sized seating throughout. All six rear seats recline for added comfort, and large sliding doors make loading and unloading effortless. The commanding driving position, excellent visibility, and light controls make it surprisingly easy to drive, whilst rear parking sensors and standard air-conditioning add to its appeal.
The i800 is powered by a single 2.5-litre diesel engine available in 134bhp or 168bhp variants, with manual or automatic transmissions respectively. Fuel consumption is modest at around 31mpg for the manual version, though real-world figures are likely lower. Running costs are reasonable, with insurance groups between 28 and 35, and Hyundai offers fixed-price servicing plans. The interior, whilst functional and well-equipped with standard features, reflects its van-based origins with modest material quality. For budget-conscious buyers needing eight seats, the i800 represents excellent value, though rivals offer superior interior refinement and fuel efficiency.
Best for: Large families requiring eight seats, buyers on a budget seeking maximum practicality and luggage space, and those prioritising affordability over premium interior quality.
Not ideal for: Buyers seeking premium interior materials, those concerned about fuel consumption, or drivers who struggle with large vehicle dimensions and parking challenges.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai i800 | 3/5 | 4.2/5 | 33.3% | 4.1/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the i800 if: You need eight seats, are on a budget, prioritise practicality and luggage space, and are willing to accept modest interior quality and fuel consumption.
Consider alternatives if: You seek premium interior materials, superior fuel efficiency, or prefer more refined driving dynamics and smaller dimensions.
Competitive Position: The Hyundai i800 (2008-2019) occupies a unique position in the market as one of the few genuinely affordable eight-seater options. Whilst rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and Citroën C5 Aircross offer superior interior quality, refinement, and user ratings, they typically seat only seven. The i800's key strength lies in its exceptional value for money, vast practicality, and ability to accommodate larger families without premium pricing. For budget-conscious buyers requiring eight seats, it remains a compelling choice, though those prioritising comfort and quality should consider seven-seater alternatives.

4.3 Overall rating
(4 reviews)Features of car are very good, as with most Hyundais they are a lot of car for the money. Unfortunately, this particular one was probably priced £4000 over its value as it had an extremely poor service history.
This is a really great car with lots of room for all of the family, it's well kitted out with everything that you need.
Great value for an MPV with state-of-the-art features. Like the Mercedes Vito at a cheaper price.
great car for family with lots of space for all. its very spacious and comfortable to drive.
