Brilliant vehicle. I’ve had 4 of them. Used for towing horse box. The pulling power is more than sufficient along with superb reliability. Saying that, preventative maintenance is my mantra. A little expensive on day to day running costs but, you get what you pay for. Luxury and comfort with all the toys. Looking for number 5.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Comfy on the road, capable off it | It's hugely expensive |
| High quality interior | No seven-seater option |
| Lots of technology on board | European rivals do most things a little better |
Quick Summary
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is America's answer to the Range Rover Sport—a large SUV designed to be comfortable, refined and sophisticated on the road, yet virtually unstoppable off it. This fifth-generation version represents a significant improvement over its predecessors in terms of on-road dynamic polish, interior quality and technology. It offers a generous 580-litre boot with a square shape and massive opening, plus excellent rear legroom and a low, wide transmission tunnel that doesn't compromise middle-seat comfort. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain combines a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with electric motors, delivering 380 metric horsepower and impressive performance of 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds.
The Grand Cherokee excels with Quadra-lift air suspension, adaptive damping and a sophisticated multi-layered four-wheel-drive system offering Rock, Snow, and Mud and Sand modes. It provides a smooth, fuss-free ride with controlled suspension and accurate, responsive steering. The Uconnect 5 infotainment system includes wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and multiple screens, though it can be complex to navigate. With up to 31 miles of electric-only range and official WLTP figures of 88-97mpg, running costs can be low if you charge regularly and keep journeys short. However, the Grand Cherokee is hugely expensive to buy and run, with prices starting around £72,000, and depreciation may be heavier than European rivals.
Best for: Buyers seeking a luxury SUV combining on-road comfort with genuine off-road capability, those who value American styling and engineering, and affluent drivers willing to invest in a premium plug-in hybrid.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those needing seven seats, or drivers prioritising the refinement and handling of European rivals like the Range Rover Sport or Mercedes G-Class.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jeep Grand Cherokee | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 31.7% | 4.1/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz G-Class | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 27.0% | 4.0/5 |
| Range Rover Sport | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 31.9% | 4.5/5 |
| Ford Focus Mk3 | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 33.3% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Grand Cherokee if: You're seeking a luxury SUV combining on-road comfort with genuine off-road capability, value American styling and engineering, or are an affluent driver willing to invest in a premium plug-in hybrid.
Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious, need seven seats, or prioritise the refinement and handling of European rivals like the Range Rover Sport or Mercedes G-Class.
Competitive Position: The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a compelling alternative to mainstream European luxury SUVs, offering a unique blend of American design, impressive technology and genuine off-road prowess. Whilst the Range Rover Sport edges ahead with superior handling and a higher overall CarGurus rating of 4.5/5, the Grand Cherokee delivers excellent value in the premium SUV segment with its spacious interior, high-quality finishes and plug-in hybrid efficiency. It sits between the Mercedes G-Class and Ford Focus in expert ratings, but matches the G-Class for user satisfaction at 5.0/5. For buyers prioritising comfort, capability and distinctive styling over European refinement, the Grand Cherokee represents a strong proposition, though its premium pricing and heavier depreciation require careful consideration.
