This car is a very comfortable ride, very little noise whether its in ev or hev. Spec is very good on this model and is quite economical to run. My insurance did go up quite a lot though from having a Nissan Qashqai before.

Excellent motor to drive, especially when in sport mode. Unfortunately it was missing floor mats and the satnav sd card , but it has android auto. Its very comfortable. I cant compare it to any other hybrid because its the first hybrid Ive ever driven, but I would highly recommend this model.

Kia Niro (2016-2022) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Roomy for passengers | Small boot on PHEV |
| Low running costs | Dull to drive |
| PHEV or standard hybrid options | Lacks polish of e-Niro |
Quick Summary
The Kia Niro (2016-2022) is a compact SUV that pioneered the concept of offering only electrified powertrains, with no conventional petrol or diesel options. Available as a self-charging hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), or full-electric model, the Niro provides flexibility for different driving needs. The hybrid delivers reasonable fuel economy around town, whilst the PHEV offers up to 30 miles of pure electric range when charged regularly. Build quality is solid, and the interior is conservative but functional, with a responsive touchscreen infotainment system that's intuitive to use.
Space inside is adequate for four adults, though the middle rear seat is tight. The hybrid's 373-litre boot is acceptable, but the PHEV's 324-litre capacity is compromised by its larger battery pack. Performance is perfectly adequate for urban driving, but both models are heavy and lack the agility of rivals like the Seat Ateca. Comfort levels are good, and running costs are low, particularly for the standard hybrid. Insurance groups range from 11 to 15, and servicing is reasonably priced with optional fixed-price Care plans available. The Niro benefits from Kia's excellent reliability reputation and seven-year warranty.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking a practical SUV with low running costs, those interested in hybrid or plug-in hybrid technology, and drivers prioritising passenger space and comfort.
Not ideal for: Buyers wanting engaging driving dynamics, those requiring maximum boot space, or those seeking the premium feel and styling of rivals like the Peugeot 3008.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kia Niro | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 32.4% | 4.3/5 |
| Skoda Karoq | 5/5 | 5.0/5 | 28.9% | 4.5/5 |
| Toyota C-HR | 4/5 | 4.3/5 | 34.1% | 4.3/5 |
| Peugeot 3008 | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 35.6% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Niro if: You're seeking a practical SUV with low running costs, interested in hybrid or plug-in hybrid technology, or prioritising passenger space and comfort on a budget.
Consider alternatives if: You want engaging driving dynamics, maximum boot space, or the premium feel and styling of rivals like the Peugeot 3008.
Competitive Position: The Kia Niro (2016-2022) is a sensible choice in the compact SUV market, offering excellent value and low running costs with its electrified powertrains. Whilst rivals like the Skoda Karoq and Peugeot 3008 offer superior driving dynamics and styling, the Niro's flexibility with hybrid and PHEV options, combined with Kia's reliability reputation and seven-year warranty, makes it an attractive proposition for practical-minded buyers. However, it lacks the polish and engagement of its competitors, making it best suited to those prioritising economy and practicality over driving enjoyment.
