Kia Venga (2009-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Versatile family-friendly cabin | Dull to drive |
| Some of the original seven-year warranty should still cover recent examples | Disappointing fuel economy |
| Generous kit on all models bar the entry-level '1' | More reliability issues than you'd expect of a Kia |
Quick Summary
The Kia Venga (2009-2019) is a mini-MPV designed to offer greater practicality than a conventional supermini. It features a spacious and versatile cabin, easily accommodating four adults with generous headroom and legroom. The rear bench is a 60:40 split-folding arrangement with reclining backrests and can slide fore and aft, allowing for flexible boot space (440 to 550 litres with seats in use, up to 1,253 litres with seats folded flat). Its high seating position and low sills are appreciated for ease of access.
Available with 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines, none are particularly perky, with the 1.6 CRDi being the most relaxed for longer trips. Driving dynamics are a weak point, with a bumpy ride, vague steering, and excessive body roll. Standard equipment levels are generally generous from the '2' trim upwards, including alloy wheels, Bluetooth, and reversing sensors, with higher trims adding climate control and satnav. However, real-world fuel economy often disappoints compared to official figures, though the transferable seven-year warranty can be a significant benefit for used buyers.
Best for: Drivers prioritising practicality, cabin space, and ease of access in a compact package, those seeking a well-equipped car (from '2' trim upwards), and buyers who can benefit from the remaining transferable warranty.
Not ideal for: Drivers who value engaging driving dynamics, strong acceleration, or exceptional real-world fuel economy, and those who dislike cheap interior plastics.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

| Kia Venga | 3/5 | 4.6/5 | 32.7% | 4.0/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Venga if: You're prioritising practicality, cabin space, and ease of access in a compact package, seeking a well-equipped car (from '2' trim upwards), or looking to benefit from the remaining transferable warranty.
Consider alternatives if: You value engaging driving dynamics, strong acceleration, exceptional real-world fuel economy, or wish to avoid interiors with cheaper plastics.
Competitive Position: The Kia Venga (2009-2019) carves out a niche as a highly practical and versatile mini-MPV, offering exceptional cabin space and flexible seating in a compact footprint. While its driving dynamics are uninspiring and real-world fuel economy can be a letdown, its generous standard equipment levels and the transferable seven-year warranty add significant appeal as a used purchase. It stands as a sensible, value-oriented choice for families or those needing maximum interior utility, though rivals may offer a more engaging drive or better efficiency.

(18 reviews)Excellent car with perfect drive ability really smooth automatic
Having had 3 different Sportage models from 2011 until 2020 we swapped to a Kona Hybrid which is excellent. However we felt at our time of life we didnt need another brand new car for my wife as I already have an Ioniq 5 as a company car. We looked at various brands for about a month, both at garages and on the internet. You get to build up quiet a good picture of prices and what you get. We found the Venga to be very roomy inside and having had the previous sportages over 9 or so years the layout and controls were familiar. It is a low mileage car in excellent condition and is the top spec Venga 4, so fully loaded. This was important as we felt it would be too much of a gap with what my wife had on her Kona. The Venga has ticked the box as an excellent run around , deceptively roomy and with better driver visibility and a brighter airy cabin with the pan sunroof . It has a reversing camera and sensors so it is a breeze to park. The ride isnt quiet as good as the Kona over rougher roads, but its good enough. Research showed that the Venga although not made anymore is held in high regard by its owners, which after all is what we should be taking into account. Its very well equipped, safe and reliable, easy to drive and park, rides well over most roads and is a fraction of the cost of newer models with less on them.
After 50yrs of driving several cars I found the Kia Venga is the best I've had. It's fabulous in every respect that much so I've just bought another Kia venga 4 isg.
It is a good small mpv. I have diesel which is very economical. I think it is quite different to the competitors and I think Kia made a real error to withdraw it from their range. I will struggle to find a replacement.
I am pleased so far with the recently purchased vehicle. It has a raft of equipment that is good to have (eg heated seats, cruise control, automatic climate control) and good safety credentials. The only issue is the keyless entry system that takes getting used to, especially as the boot unlocks itself when you are in the proximity of the vehicle with the key. I had to go online and access a forum to ensure that this was normal and not a fault with the mechanism! It compares well with the Hyundai ix20 although it has a better suspension setup offset by less extras. The vehicle is spacious, reasonably fuel-efficient, It is quiet, comfortable, and very easy to drive.
