MG3 Hybrid+ Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Hybrid powertrain impresses for both performance and economy	Small boot and limited versatility
Affordable to buy and well equipped	Some brittle interior plastics
Pleasant to drive	Safety systems can get irritating

Quick Summary

The MG3 Hybrid+ is an impressively affordable supermini that combines smart styling with genuine practicality for passengers. Powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor producing 192bhp and 313lb ft of torque, it delivers impressive performance and refinement through a three-speed automatic gearbox. The hybrid powertrain achieves official WLTP fuel economy of 64.2mpg with CO2 emissions of 100g/km, and real-world figures often exceed 60mpg. Even the entry-level SE trim is generously equipped with climate control, rear parking sensors, reversing camera, and an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The car rides and handles well with firm-but-fair suspension that balances comfort with body control, though front tyre grip could be better and the steering weight is inconsistent. The main drawback is the modest 293-litre boot with a high load lip and single-piece rear seat that limits versatility. Interior plastics are hard and unappealing, though cleverly finished. At just over £19,000 for the SE and £21,000 for the Trophy, the MG3 Hybrid+ represents exceptional value in the supermini market, making it an excellent choice for budget-conscious buyers seeking hybrid efficiency without compromise.

Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking an affordable hybrid, those prioritising low running costs and generous equipment, and drivers wanting decent performance in a practical supermini.

Not ideal for: Those requiring a spacious boot, buyers seeking premium interior quality, or drivers who find safety systems intrusive.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the MG3 Hybrid+ if: You're seeking an affordable hybrid supermini with excellent value, generous equipment, low running costs, and decent performance without breaking the bank.

Consider alternatives if: You require a spacious boot, prioritise premium interior quality, or find advanced safety systems frustrating rather than reassuring.

Competitive Position: The MG3 Hybrid+ is a compelling proposition in the supermini market, offering the best value for money among its rivals. Whilst the Renault Clio provides more style and the Suzuki Swift offers better user satisfaction, the MG3 Hybrid+ stands out for its combination of affordability, hybrid efficiency, and generous standard equipment. The Dacia Sandero is cheaper to buy but lacks the MG's performance and technology. For budget-conscious buyers prioritising low running costs and practicality, the MG3 Hybrid+ represents an exceptional choice that doesn't compromise on driving enjoyment or modern conveniences.
