Mercedes-Benz EQC (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Relaxed and comfortable to drive | Not as much fun as a Jaguar I-Pace |
| Very quick, but cheap to charge | High insurance premiums |
| Spacious and practical | Some rivals can recharge more quickly |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz EQC is the brand’s first pure-electric SUV, a premium rival to the Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace. Offered as the EQC 400 4Matic, its 80kWh battery provides a realistic real-world range of around 200-220 miles. It's a practical five-seat SUV with a 500-litre boot and good passenger space for two adults in the back, though the middle rear seat is compromised. It’s a spacious and practical choice for families looking to switch to a premium EV.
The EQC prioritises comfort over sportiness, delivering a serene and exceptionally quiet driving experience. Its 402bhp twin electric motors provide rapid acceleration, but the handling is less engaging than a Jaguar I-Pace. The cabin is plush, featuring high-quality materials and a large digital display. Running costs are low thanks to cheap home charging and tax exemptions, though insurance is in the highest group. Nearly-new models represent particularly good value in the premium electric SUV class.
Best for: Buyers seeking a luxurious, comfortable, and quiet premium electric SUV with strong performance and an upmarket interior.
Not ideal for: Drivers who prioritise sporty handling (consider the Jaguar I-Pace), those needing the fastest possible charging speeds, or families who regularly need to carry five people.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz EQC | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 33.9% | 4.3/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the EQC if: You want a premium electric SUV and prioritise comfort, refinement, and a high-quality interior over a sporty drive.
Consider alternatives if: You need a more engaging driving experience, the absolute fastest charging speeds, or a more practical five- or seven-seat layout.
Competitive Position: The EQC is a compelling option in the premium electric SUV market, excelling with its sumptuous comfort and refined driving manners. While it can't match the Jaguar I-Pace for driver enjoyment, its luxurious cabin and quiet ride make it a standout choice. It represents strong value, particularly on the nearly-new market, making it a very appealing alternative to its key rivals.

4.5 Overall rating
(4 reviews)Lovely comfortable car with great performance for the price
Great vehicle,Drives smooth and quiet, lovely interior and pretty good tech. Easy to navigate control buttons and clear instruction. Love the touch screens and sharpness of the colours. Very specious. And comfy to drive
Lacks range otherwise its a nice car but pricey
The Mercedes-Benz EQC is a really marvelous car to drive, quiet, responsive. magnificantly put together in the cabin, MBUX system is still to be mastered but already one of the best systems I have had. Cannot shout loud enough about the quality of the car ....... except range, what a disappointment although advertised at 259 miles have only managed to achieve maximum 213 real mileage.
