It’s a stunningly good looking car. Best of the mid range suvs currently out there and certainly in the MB group. It’s robust build guarantees a pleasurable and comfortable ride and the extent to which it reduces, no eliminates road noise is exceptional. It’s expensive but worth the value. I just wish they’d added the basic feature of a phone charging pad as standard. It’s a shame this model is discontinued but then again that makes them rare and that bit more special when you find one you like.

Mercedes-Benz EQC (2019-2024) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Relaxed and comfortable to drive | High insurance premiums |
| Strong performance and low running costs | Not as enjoyable to drive as some rivals |
| Spacious and practical | Other EVs can recharge more quickly |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz EQC (2019-2024) is the German brand's first dedicated electric SUV, combining near-silent electric performance with the comfort and refinement expected from Mercedes-Benz. Powered by a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive system with an 80kWh battery, it delivers an official WLTP range of up to 254 miles, though real-world figures are typically lower, especially in cold weather or on motorways. The EQC supports both AC home charging and DC rapid charging, with a maximum DC charging speed of 110kW, allowing a 10-80 percent charge in around 40 minutes. Using a typical 7.4kW home wallbox, a full charge takes roughly 11 hours, making overnight charging straightforward for most owners.
The EQC is spacious and practical, with a 500-litre boot and 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats that expand capacity to 1,460 litres when fully folded. Inside, the cabin delivers premium quality with Mercedes-Benz's widescreen MBUX infotainment system, LED headlights, ambient lighting, and heated seats as standard. The EQC excels in comfort and refinement rather than sportiness, offering excellent ride quality and impressive noise suppression at motorway speeds. Running costs are considerably cheaper than equivalent petrol or diesel SUVs, particularly with home charging on off-peak tariffs, though insurance and replacement tyres can be expensive. Heavy depreciation has made the EQC surprisingly good value on the used market.
Best for: Buyers seeking a relaxed, comfortable, and refined electric SUV suited to long-distance driving, those with access to home charging, and budget-conscious premium EV buyers.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising sharp handling and engaging driving dynamics, those without home charging facilities, or buyers needing the fastest charging speeds available.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict
You should buy the EQC if: You seek a relaxed, comfortable, and refined electric SUV suited to long-distance driving, have access to home charging, or are a budget-conscious premium EV buyer.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sharp handling and engaging driving dynamics, lack home charging facilities, or need the fastest charging speeds available.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz EQC remains an impressively refined and luxurious electric SUV that excels in comfort and refinement. Whilst the Jaguar I-Pace offers sharper handling and the Tesla Model X provides cutting-edge technology, the EQC's quiet cabin, comfortable ride, and strong performance make it particularly well suited to long-distance driving. Heavy depreciation has made the EQC surprisingly good value on the used market, offering premium quality at a more accessible price point than newer rivals.
