Peugeot 108 (2014-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very easy to drive | Very small boot, even for a city car |
| Lots of different colours and finishes | Some rivals are cheaper to insure |
| Affordable running costs | Early entry-level cars lack air conditioning |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot 108 (2014-2020) is a diminutive city car designed for urban driving and first-time buyers. Sharing its platform with the Citroën C1 and Toyota Aygo, it offers three- and five-door bodystyles, plus an unusual retractable fabric roof option on select 'TOP!' models. At under 3.5 metres long with a 9.6-metre turning circle, it's exceptionally easy to manoeuvre through congested city streets and park in tight spaces. The 108 received a subtle facelift in 2018 before production ended in 2021.
The engine line-up comprises two small petrol units: a 68bhp 1.0-litre and an 82bhp 1.2-litre Puretech VTi, with most paired to a five-speed manual gearbox. Fuel economy is impressive across the range, with early 1.0-litre models achieving around 53-54mpg and the later 72bhp 1.0-litre reaching 54.8-58.9mpg. Road tax is free for pre-April 2017 models with emissions below 100g/km CO₂. Insurance groups range from 6 to 13, though some rivals offer cheaper premiums. Running costs are low, with affordable servicing and inexpensive consumables. The 108 is more reliable than typical Peugeots and offers good value as a used car, though its 196-litre boot is tight and rear legroom is limited.
Best for: First-time buyers, learner drivers, urban commuters, and those seeking affordable, easy-to-drive city transport with low running costs.
Not ideal for: Drivers requiring spacious rear seating or a large boot, those doing frequent motorway miles, or buyers seeking the latest safety technology and autonomous features.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 108 | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 29.3% | 4.1/5 |
| Kia Picanto | 4/5 | 4.1/5 | 32.9% | 4.3/5 |

| Volkswagen Up | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 31.2% | 4.2/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the 108 if: You're a first-time buyer or learner driver seeking affordable, easy-to-drive urban transport with low running costs and excellent value.
Consider alternatives if: You require spacious rear seating, a large boot, frequent motorway capability, or the latest safety technology and autonomous features.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 108 (2014-2020) is a capable city car offering excellent value and ease of driving, particularly for urban commuters and first-time buyers. Whilst rivals like the Kia Picanto and Toyota Aygo offer better value percentages and the Volkswagen Up provides more premium appeal, the 108 excels in affordability and user satisfaction. Its low running costs, simple mechanics, and distinctive styling options make it an attractive proposition in the used city car market. However, potential buyers should be aware of its limited boot space and rear legroom, and consider rivals if motorway comfort is a priority.

5 Overall rating
(8 reviews)I love this car and the man who sold it to me. Compared to my fiat 500 it feels like a proper car. I have in the past had a Peugeot 205 and 106. I love it has knobs on the radio and am very happy with the rear view camera which I’ve never had before.
Great spec on the car, loads of room in the front. Lovely car for running around town in. Easy to park, rear cameras are a bonus. Great on fuel consumption, no road tax. Very happy with my purchase
Lovely car with all mod cons. Very good value. Good looking car.
this car is top of the range,so you get loads of extras, for the right money,as your buying second hand.citroen C1 do the same withe two of theirs.but i think the peugoet 108 beats this.down to personl choice really
I loved the car and it’s features such as DAB radio and reversing camera. I have purchased it!
