Peugeot 108 (2014-2020) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Very easy to drive	Very small boot, even for a city car
Lots of different colours and finishes	Some rivals are cheaper to insure
Affordable running costs	Early entry-level cars lack air conditioning

Quick Summary

The Peugeot 108 (2014-2020) is a diminutive city car that shares its platform with the Citroën C1 and Toyota Aygo. Available in three- and five-door bodystyles, and uniquely with an optional retractable fabric roof, the 108 is an entry-level Peugeot designed for affordability and simplicity. At less than 3.5 metres long with a 9.6-metre turning circle, it excels in urban environments and tight parking spaces, making it popular with learners and first-time buyers. The engine line-up comprises two petrol options: a 68bhp 1.0-litre and an 82bhp 1.2-litre, with most paired to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Running costs are impressively low, with fuel economy around 50-58mpg depending on engine and specification. Cars registered before April 2017 benefit from zero Vehicle Excise Duty due to sub-100g/km CO₂ emissions, whilst insurance premiums remain affordable. The 108 is more reliable than typical Peugeots and well-equipped in mid-range and top-spec trims. However, the boot is cramped at just 196 litres, rear legroom is tight, and the car can feel noisy on motorways. As a used purchase, it represents excellent value for budget-conscious buyers seeking cheap, cheerful urban transport.

Best for: First-time buyers, learners, city dwellers, and those seeking affordable, easy-to-drive transport with low running costs.

Not ideal for: Drivers requiring spacious boot capacity, those doing frequent motorway miles, or buyers prioritising premium badge appeal.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the 108 if: You're a first-time buyer or learner seeking affordable, easy-to-drive urban transport with low running costs and excellent value.

Consider alternatives if: You require spacious boot capacity, do frequent motorway miles, or prioritise premium badge appeal and modern safety features.

Competitive Position: The Peugeot 108 (2014-2020) is a strong contender in the budget city car segment, offering exceptional value and ease of driving. Whilst the Toyota Aygo shares its platform and the Kia Picanto offers a higher expert rating, the 108 matches the Aygo for user satisfaction and delivers impressive running costs. Its optional fabric roof and variety of colours set it apart, though rivals like the Kia offer more modern features. As a used purchase, the 108 represents outstanding value for budget-conscious buyers prioritising affordability and simplicity over premium features.
