Peugeot 108 (2014-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very easy to drive | Very small boot, even for a city car |
| Lots of different colours and finishes | Some rivals are cheaper to insure |
| Affordable running costs | Early entry-level cars lack air conditioning |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot 108 (2014-2020) is a compact city car closely related to the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo. Launched in 2014, it served as the entry-point to Peugeot's range, available in three- and five-door bodystyles, and uniquely, with a retractable fabric roof option called 'TOP!'. Its diminutive size (under 3.5 metres long) and tight turning circle make it exceptionally easy to navigate city streets and park. While the boot is small at 196 litres, the rear seats split-fold for extra capacity, and front occupants enjoy good space and adjustment.
Power comes from efficient petrol engines: a 68bhp 1.0-litre suitable for town driving, and a livelier 82bhp 1.2-litre Puretech VTi. Running costs are generally low, with 1.0-litre models achieving around 53-54mpg, and later WLTP-tested engines reaching 54.8-58.9mpg. Road tax can be free for models registered before April 2017 due to low emissions. While it excels in urban environments with light controls and quick steering, it can be noisy at higher speeds on motorways. Trim levels evolved, with later models featuring improved infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, first-time car buyers, learners, and those who primarily drive in urban environments.
Not ideal for: Those needing ample boot space or rear passenger room, frequent motorway drivers (due to noise), or buyers prioritising the absolute cheapest insurance premiums.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 108 | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 27.3% | 4.1/5 |
| Toyota Aygo | 3/5 | 4.4/5 | 36.6% | 4.3/5 |
| Kia Picanto | 4/5 | 4.1/5 | 30.3% | 4.3/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the 108 if: You're on a budget, a first-time buyer or learner, or primarily drive in urban environments.
Consider alternatives if: You need ample boot space or rear passenger room, frequently drive on motorways, or are looking for the absolute cheapest insurance premiums.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 108 (2014-2020) is a strong contender in the used city car market, particularly for budget-conscious buyers and urban dwellers. Its close ties to the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo ensure proven mechanicals and reliability. While it offers excellent manoeuvrability and low running costs, some rivals might offer better boot capacity, quieter motorway cruising, or even cheaper insurance for young drivers. Nevertheless, its ease of driving, affordable running, and fun retractable roof option make it a compelling choice for many.

5 Overall rating
(8 reviews)I love this car and the man who sold it to me. Compared to my fiat 500 it feels like a proper car. I have in the past had a Peugeot 205 and 106. I love it has knobs on the radio and am very happy with the rear view camera which I’ve never had before.
Great spec on the car, loads of room in the front. Lovely car for running around town in. Easy to park, rear cameras are a bonus. Great on fuel consumption, no road tax. Very happy with my purchase
Lovely car with all mod cons. Very good value. Good looking car.
this car is top of the range,so you get loads of extras, for the right money,as your buying second hand.citroen C1 do the same withe two of theirs.but i think the peugoet 108 beats this.down to personl choice really
I loved the car and it’s features such as DAB radio and reversing camera. I have purchased it!
