Seat Mii (2012-2021) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Impressively practical for such a small car	Misses out on more powerful engine that VW Up sister car gets
Low running costs for both petrol and electric versions	More expensive than a Skoda Citigo
Excellent value for money	Interior a little utilitarian

Quick Summary

The Seat Mii (2012-2021) is a stylish city car that's mechanically identical to the VW Up and Skoda Citigo. Initially offered with 1.0-litre petrol engines in 59bhp or 74bhp versions, it delivers impressive practicality with a 251-litre boot and comfortable seating for four. From 2019, the petrol model was discontinued, and the car became available exclusively as the Seat Mii Electric with 83bhp and an official WLTP range of 161 miles. The electric version proved popular as one of the cheapest EVs available, with its 36.8kWh battery offering longer range than rivals like the Fiat 500e and Honda e.

Whether petrol or electric, the Mii is a joy to drive with excellent handling and a surprisingly comfortable ride suitable for both town and open-road use. Petrol versions achieve 45-50mpg, whilst the electric model costs just over £5 per full charge on standard UK tariffs. Running costs are exceptionally low across both powertrains, with affordable servicing and cheap parts. The 2016 facelift introduced the sportier FR Line trim with stiffer suspension. As a budget runabout, the Mii represents outstanding value, though it was discontinued in 2021 with no direct replacement.

Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking a practical, reliable city car; those wanting an affordable pure electric vehicle; drivers prioritising low running costs and excellent value for money.

Not ideal for: Buyers seeking premium interior finishes or badge prestige; those requiring the most powerful engine option; drivers wanting the latest model year.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Mii if: You're seeking a budget-conscious, practical city car; wanting an affordable pure electric vehicle; or prioritising low running costs and excellent value for money.

Consider alternatives if: You desire premium interior finishes, badge prestige, the most powerful engine option, or require the latest model year.

Competitive Position: The Seat Mii (2012-2021) is a seriously impressive small car that has been somewhat overshadowed by its sister cars, the cheaper Skoda Citigo and the posher Volkswagen Up. However, it remains one of the best budget runabouts available. The later Mii Electric is a thoroughly recommendable and fun little EV, lacking the plush finish of the Fiat 500e but offering one of the best options for budget-conscious buyers seeking a pure electric car. A used petrol Mii is equally recommendable, perfectly suited to town driving yet stable enough for confident open-road use, with practicality, reliability, and charm to spare.
