Skoda Citigo (2012-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Better value than a VW Up | Interior not as posh as VW Up's |
| Fun yet comfortable to drive | Equipment can feel a little basic |
| Cheap to run | Limited performance |
Quick Summary
The Skoda Citigo is one of a triplet of city cars from the Volkswagen Group, renowned for being good value, spacious for their size, and fun to drive. Available in three- and five-door variants, it offered enough room for four average-sized adults and a 251-litre boot, making it one of the roomiest and most practical cars in its class. Initially powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine, a pure electric version, the Citigo-e iV, was introduced shortly before its discontinuation in 2020.
Despite its limited performance, the Citigo is brilliantly wieldy around town, with light steering and a comfortable ride. Running costs are exceptionally low, with petrol models achieving 45-50 mpg and very low insurance groups. The electric Citigo-e iV, offering up to 161 miles of range, sold out quickly due to its affordability, though used prices remain high. While it might not be as stylish as some rivals, it stands out as a fun, comfortable, safe, and versatile small car offering excellent value.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, those seeking a fun, practical, and efficient city car, or buyers looking for an affordable and swift small EV (Citigo-e iV).
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising a luxurious interior, top-tier performance, advanced standard equipment, or needing a three-person rear bench.

The Verdict
You should buy the Citigo if: You're on a budget, seeking a fun, practical, reliable and efficient city car, or looking for an affordable and swift small EV (Citigo-e iV).
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a luxurious interior, top-tier performance, advanced standard equipment, or need a three-person rear bench.
Competitive Position: The Skoda Citigo (2012-2020) stands out in the city car segment for its exceptional value, practicality, and enjoyable driving dynamics. While its interior may not match the premium feel of a VW Up or offer the same advanced standard features as some rivals, its low running costs, spacious cabin for its size, and the availability of an efficient electric model make it a compelling choice. It offers a well-rounded package for budget-conscious buyers seeking a fun and versatile urban companion.

(8 reviews)Fantastic little car. Very nippy and a pleasure to drive. Holds the road really well. Excellent value for money.
I no longer needed a Chelsea Tractor. The Citigo has enough features, is not over complicated, it is easy to drive , comfortable and economical. This is my fourth Skoda ( each a different model ). Need I say no more ?
Very good value. Perfect for a new driver. Slightly cheaper than UP.
Wonderful little car for puttering about the Irish countryside. Surprisingly spacious (Im tall), and great mileage.
the engine is not big enough. nice car nice price but not enough oomph under the bonnet!
