Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very roomy for a small SUV | Not as much fun as a Ford Puma |
| Good value for money | There's no fuel-sipping hybrid model |
| Comfortable to travel in and appealing to drive | Lacks the sliding rear seats of some rivals |
Quick Summary
The Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) is a highly-rated compact crossover that offers an exceptional blend of practicality, comfort, and value. Positioned as a smaller alternative to Skoda's larger SUVs, it provides more interior space than many rivals, with surprisingly comfortable rear seats for adults and a generous 400-litre boot. The cabin is well-finished, and the plush ride coupled with good noise suppression makes it comfortable for long journeys, though its driving position is lower than some might expect from a crossover.
Engine options include efficient petrol engines (1.0-litre TSI with 94bhp or 114bhp, and a 1.5-litre TSI with 148bhp) and a 1.6-litre TDI diesel, with the 114bhp 1.0-litre TSI being a popular choice for its balance of performance and economy. Running costs are generally low, thanks to good fuel efficiency and affordable insurance. While there's no hybrid option, the petrol engines are already very efficient. The Kamiq is a strong contender whether new or used, offering various trim levels from the basic S to the sporty Monte Carlo.
Best for: Drivers seeking a highly practical and spacious small SUV, those prioritising comfort and value for money, and buyers looking for an efficient petrol engine.
Not ideal for: Buyers who want the highest possible driving engagement (like a Ford Puma), those specifically looking for a hybrid model, or those who require sliding rear seats.

The Verdict
You should buy the Kamiq if: You need a highly practical, spacious, and comfortable small SUV that offers excellent value for money and low running costs.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a more engaging driving experience, require a hybrid powertrain, or need sliding rear seats for ultimate flexibility.
Competitive Position: The Skoda Kamiq is a top contender in the small SUV class, often outperforming rivals in terms of interior space and cabin quality. While it might not offer the dynamic flair of a Ford Puma, its blend of practicality, comfort, efficiency, and value makes it an incredibly sensible and well-rounded choice, whether buying new or used.
